Maybe a Brachychiton populneus or something in the family. I think they are desert-like trees and are cold tolerant to 25F so they definitely fit the climate that San Diego is in. I dont think Brachychiton populneus loses their leaves, but Brachychiton australis does and it looks like that might be the tree in your pic. The seed pods also look similar.

Thanks. It is Brachychiton australis . The leaves,flowers and seed pods match.
