Default Canna Stuttgart

My Stuttgart finally flowered! The flowers are about 10 feet high!

A few nice looking leaves.

I recently acquired a few Stuttgarts and they are really taking off. I'm not sure that they'll flower this year though. Keep up the good work!

I also have planted some this year. The leaves are nothing like those spectacular show, seem to just have veins, no white at all. Is this normal? Will they be better next year? Or, get another batch?

Mine have always had varying degrees of variegation. Some leaves are all green, some are all white and everything in between.

So now I know what I can look forward to
A local nursery was selling these guys for $5 each earlier this year, but I came back a week later and all the prices had changed to $15. I knew I should have bought some more, lol.

Terry,
I don't do anything special to them. That is partly why they have burnt leaves and they are taking over the poor little Zebrina beside (practically underneath) them. I should divide it up and sell some of it. PM me if interested I guess.

I have mine growing behind a 6 foot wooden fence for some shade. Maybe that's why it stretched so tall. I do keep it pretty wet all the time. It seems that the longer it's in the ground the longer it takes for the white leaves to burn. Maybe they can handle full sun after being in it long enough?

Do you guys have the Canna virus in the US?its getting increasingly difficult to find sources of virus free cannas over here.

I'm not aware of any virus here. I get the occasional grasshopper that munches holes in the leaves but that's about it. Have you tried growing from seed ordered from other countries?

I haven't tried growing from seed, but it looks like thats going to be the only way to have uninfected plants over here.
I'm glad you haven't got the virus over there,at least not yet. Here in the UK virtualy all canna stock in garden centres, nurseries etc are infected. Thus even if you have virus free plants the likely hood of them staying that way are getting slimmer.I've even seen Infected stock of C.Durban being sold from RHS Wisley and they're supposed to be Gardenings head honchos in the UK.So not a good example to the rest of the trade is it?
