Hiya Canna musafolia vs omega

Hello everyone,

I just wondered if anyone has grown these to cannas side by side. I want fast and large, due to the short season here. I read somewhere that Omega hits 12' fast and musafolia can reach 12' - 14', but later in the season. Has this been the case for anyone?

I don't have musafolia but other cannas, it is said that it grows faster than a
Basjoo but it won't flower in your zone.

My 'Russian Red' , can grow up to 9 feet.

An other unknown (could be golden girl)

Those are pretty cannas. I want the musafolia for the green. I have a few spots that need a nice tall filler and after seeing a few pics I had to give it a try.

I grew something sold as that. However, it was from a garden centre which seems good at mixing up their plant identification so I don't trust any of their identifications ever. Buying from them is a bit like lucky dip!

Mine reached about 12 ft, but then flowered with a drooping head of dangling pink/purple flowers. They were very different to other cannas.

I think mine might really have been Canna Iridiflora.

Omega is a thug. In one season it spread and started tunnelling under other plants. I dug up every tiny piece and threw it away, I wouldn't have wanted to share this plant w/ anyone. The musafolia is beautiful and very bananaey looking. I dug up most of my cannas due to virus, I had about 50 varieties at one time.

Thanks for the info Kabby,
I have to dig up my cannas every year anyways, so a thug may be a good thing for me, lol.
