Too funny seeing that old milli vanilli video, Ante! :ha: I remember how shocked everyone was to find out they were a couple of phony baloney lip-syncing fraudsters!

Seweryn, where are your lovely pictures these days? I miss them. ;)

It's real hot and muggy here today, at 35°C...94°F with the humidex reading! Yikes!!!

Thought I'd pop in briefly...it's been awhile. Jack's been absent for a bit but we emailed recently and things are cool...just busy.

Have a great rest of the week, guys. Try to stay cool. :D

Does not look like an umbrella would do any good in that storm.

We had some rain last night and desperately needed it.

You wanna talk about a nightmare Seweryn...on Thursday with the humidex reading we reached 120°F!!!:eek::eek:

It was bloodey murder is what it was! We're back to 97°F...which is "normal" for us. It's the humidity and the poor air quality that's the killer. We have smog here too, so it can be really bad.

Stay cool everyone. ;)

Happy Sunday! :D

i would think cymbidiums would love this kind of weather..
dont they like a day/nite drop of temp of 20+F to do really well..
anyways.. im sure i'll be complaining when its january and dreaming
of spring/summer again.. LOL

Re: Weather forecast

Well - as you have some other non-europeans posting I thought I would butt in! We are currently under hurricane watch for tomorrow and have cut all the fruit off the bananas - most of the bunches were huge and the ones that lay on the roof definitly had to go! So down came the Manzanos and Blue Java bunches, and the gardeners (if they come) will take down the trunks tomorrow.

Hey - we might even get a hurricane party out of Irene!

Dalmatiansoap 08-21-2011 06:16 PM

Thats a bad news, new hurricane storm? Take care down there.

Cassie, we will also be watching the storm. Your are in more of it's path but will at least get heavy rains. We are planning a "rain" party as they aren't as wild. Good luck and take care.

Re: Weather forecast

As a cat1 hurricane she is due to pass us 30 miles away to the north at 5am early tomorrow morning, so no party at that hour!!! Stores are closing early and the schools have closed too. We have had some rain bands through but it is really still - the quiet before the storm? But the nice cool wind is good. Nothing to get stressed about and we are all battened down - the towel brigade are on standby!!

Another burst of pounding rain from the north as I post - dogs scampering to get under cover!

Ante - I meant the north americans posting in the european section - thought I'd join in as we are part of South America.

Re: Weather forecast

We enjoyed the eye of one storm and it was the most beautiful day we had ever seen. It was unreal how clear and blue the sky was. Wasn't long though as it passed and then continued to kick some butt. Sank our 25' Bertrum and blow our almost finished house off of the stilts. Hey that was just a small one, have seen many bigger but I bet you have also.
Take care.

island cassie 08-22-2011 03:50 PM

Re: Weather forecast

Sorry to hear about your losses Noah - I hope the insurance companies came through! We are usually lucky here as we have big mountains at our back (the highest in the Caribbean) to deflect storms. I hope I am right this time too.:ha:

oakshadows 08-22-2011 04:32 PM

Re: Weather forecast

Will offer a few prayers for you and yours. If the storm kcks a bit north it won't be any problem for us.
Take care.

island cassie 08-22-2011 09:58 PM

Re: Weather forecast

Thanks Noah - we are not too worried - we have made our preparations and will take what comes - Cat 2 now!! But I fear for the Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas - they are only a few feet above the water level and the storm surge is predicted at up to 10ft!! Our friends on Eleuthera have had the sea surging through their house many times, and this looks like another time.

At least we can evacuate if necessary. Haven't had to yet but we know what the storms can do don't we. Take care.

Ante, The rains have put down about an inch of rain for us and we needed it. Not as bad as some. It sure smelled nice. The newly seeded areas of our pasture liked it also. Good luck

Re: Weather forecast

Now, whan it finaly rained I can plant! Soon as the dirt allow and soil dry a bit I have several Palms and some other stuff to plant. Didnt do that before becouse I would need to water them on daily bases and that just wasnt possible at the moment

What happened ? Hope it wasn't too bad. It rained again last night and put down over an inch. Nice storms with slow rain and low winds. Good luck.

Dalmatiansoap 09-21-2011 03:03 PM

Re: Weather forecast

Well, after cleaning and pruning all dead leaves I lost to about 25% of foliage, what isnt so bad after all. I dont mind shredded look but I get this every now and then. Well I guess thats the one of reasons why we dont have so many bananas arround here:ha:

We have great weather this year, actually it is more like summer than autumn - the only negative detail is fact that it's extremely dry.

Yes, it does look nice there. I am amazed at the many places in this world that people grow tropicals. Rain also is an issue with us on occasion as the grass doesnot grow and the cattle have to eat hay. Will you take the banana in when it gets cold? Even here in zone 9b it drops the temps down enough to harm some of the plants.

Seweryn 10-05-2011 08:44 AM

Re: Weather forecast

Yes I will.
I had tried to overwinter them in the garden but almost nothing survived the winter, so I dig them up and keeping in pots. I plant them out in the middle of May.

Sherry, thanks you reminded me I hadn't any vacation this summer. ;)

We might get some cool down weather this weekend with some rain and hard wind (who could guess that:ha:) that will be official end of the Summer here.

Well in bright sunny Florida the temps have also started to drop. Had to wear long pants, long sleve shirt and insulated vest this morning. I do not like cold weather, and it was only 56 F, but I still was cold.
Thankfully the plants are more hardy than I and it should be some time before they will need protection. Stay warm.
