So my Mona Lisa (FHIA-02) decided it was a good time to bloom. Image 1 is huge flower and image 2 is 10 days later. About 8 hands so far! Just planted it in July last year so about 10 months to flower. 3 nice pups so far (well, 2 now that I gave one away).

Well done!

I really like the fruit of this variety, but I think it likes the climate in Florida a lot more than the climate of southern California! I've grown it for years and is very slow and not very productive for me. I'm growing it in a better spot now, so maybe that will make it happier. I hope so.

I've just got to tell someone, I'm going BANANA's. I cut down the plants to about 3ft and heavily mulch them for the winter. Here it is June and one of the plants has thrown out only a flower. I've got it supported and have been watching it bloom. There are 4 hands on it, not sure if any more will come forth. The bananas are 3-3.5 in and the florets are beginning to dry and drop off. What do I do next...I'm hoping they continue to mature - possible ripen into edible fruit. Any advice on nurturing them further or do I just wait an let nature take it's course. I did get 15-5-30 and will start with that tomorrow. I live in South County (AA) Maryland and have no idea of the banana variety I have. At peak height they get about 5-6ft and can be 4-6in in diameter. Posted some pics under Banana Flower Gallery too. Wish me success.

He didn't make it and doubt it was a dwarf brazilian. Maybe a Raja Puri or something else. Way too short for a dwarf brazilian but next year should get a better chance to ID.

Congratulations to Hdynad on the great looking Pitogo and success in TX!

My velutina has 3 hands with 3 nanas each. These are the plumpest fruits I've ever seen. Seems like I finally got the timing right for growing in zone 6!!!

Thanks!

I had a flower previously that was straight up - on the mother plant. I guess this one just wants to bend down like a regular banana....

The plant has maybe 3' of Pstem and isn't a very thick stem. Perhaps it can't support a vertical flower for such massive fruits!
