(And the realization I posses little self control with these Banana plant creatures)
At a grocery store nursery for 7.99 this *was a steal*--and quite a surprise! Except the occasional Dwarf Cavendish at Wal Mart, we just really don't get banana plants around here.(Midwest). According to the tag it's "Fantastic Foliage Mix." "Banana." ![]() One of its leaves was badly bent in/partially broken. So I "fixed" it with some tape and a couple of tooth picks.( I know, I'm lame. lol) The plant is (leaves included) over a foot tall with a canopy about the same width. I actually think it's a bit taller now. I swear the thing grew overnight... My question is this: Normally I do more gradual pot ups. But since this is already hardened off and will go straight outdoors, I was considering plopping it in a 16 inch pot with a 2 or 3 other small plants. Is this okay for the plant? Or should I do a more gradual pot up? Thanks in advance! ![]() Heeeereeee's Musa: Fantastic Foliage Mix: Banana!" Last edited by Sundra : 05-25-2020 at 02:33 AM. |

Are you sure that is an Ensete??? ....I can't see the petiole, but I think you have a Bird. The leaf ribs on bananas are straight & near perpendicular to the mid-rib. search for 'young ensete maurlii' photos and compare. Last edited by edwmax : 05-26-2020 at 07:42 AM. |

![]() Solitare it is then, or maybe some annuals that will be removed come autumn anyways. Quote:
To my eyes they look exactly alike, including the more "curvy" ribbing. (I double checked after reading your post.)When you say "Bird" I'm assuming you mean Bird of Paradise? I can't find any with this particular leaf variegation to compare. Do you know by chance which Bird would have leaves like this? I can only find solid green and variegated with yellow or white. Here is the p-stem of mine if that helps: |

Great looking plant.
They are sold as an annual or a filler accent plant in planters. Your plant will be a slow grower the first season but once established will get some great wide foiliage. |

I've never noticed them around here before--then again I also wasn't infected with Bananaitus like now
![]() Sad to think that people actually let these die to the winter. |
