This is my Calif Gold as of 11/12/09.
I waited for a long time for it to change color and I think because of the change of temperature which is on the low to high 40's it is changing colors. This is the daughter plant of the mom who had fruit on 2007. This is the mama fruited on 10/2007 And I have more granddaughters coming up.

Benny: My pup has rooted out real well. It's holding 7 leaves currently. It is one of the only bananas still pushing fronds in the cooler temps.

I am glad to hear that Buffy. I am sure you will have daughters and grand daughters as well. The first year or two cover the top with clear plastics to make sure and if you have anymore to spare cover the sides also . After that they are on their own.

The forecast for today is Freezing (32 F) so I have no choice but to cut the California gold fruit.
I have also started to cut the stems of the leaves of all of my bananas except the Calif Gold and Dwarf Brazilian and tied them to the pstem. That way they will protect the pstem somewhat. And then I will put a trash can liner on top of the pstem hoping it will save my bananas from freezing. I don't think I am going to use my Christmas lights this year. This is the first time I am going to do them this way.

OK. I ate the first ripe banana shown a minute after I took the picture and I can tell you it was delicious.
I can't tell you the right taste but all I can tell you is it taste like more of a saba except a tad more sweeter and juiceier. I don't know if I should let it ripe some more but to me it is just perfect. I also don't know if it is a cooking banana or a dessert banana or both. Is there any takers? Saba to me is like eating a vanilla ice cream with apple and papaya combined as flavor.

Bob:
The only problem is Dalmatian Soap is from Croatia and I have no license to ship a fruit tree overseas. I am just a backyard gardener. I am in the look out now of buying a half an acre house and lot in San Diego area so I can have a much bigger lot to grow bananas but this is only a wish but I am looking.....who knows my dream could be true. At this time it is very affordable. I am bringing this thread up to date and I will post pictures soon. pasadera house picture by bencelest - Photobucket houseIwired.jpg picture by bencelest - Photobucket This is for Ante

Hey, Ante, that's not my house. I only wired that house for wages but I was the "master" electrician the brain. Never in a million years I can afford to buy a house like that. It was on sale for $2.9 million before the crash. Now it is probably less than half that cost so the owner/builder lost a lot of money
