This thread will showcase the progress on my backyard banana collection!

Here's what I have in the ground so far...

In this picture Left->Right:
Niño, Dwarf Cavendish, Variegated Florida, Manzano, Raja Puri, Dwarf Namwa



Continued after the Dwarf Namwa - A couple of Orinoco in the back
Still have more room to plant some more Nanas here



In another part of my yard I planted a Plantain & another Niño rhizomes.
They have only been on the ground for 3 days and are already growing!!



Here is a closeup on one of the Niño rhizomes



The Plantain rhizome already sent out a shoot!



Lastly... These are all my other nanas still in pots!!!

Pups - Blue Java, California Gold, Praying Hands, 1000 Fingers, Tall Namwa, Super Dwarf Cavendish <-- I plan to grow this one potted

TC - Blue Java, Hua Moa X2, Double Mahoi, Maoli, Truly Tiny, Manzano



I also have a Red Banana rhizome on the way...

The hua moa look so pretty to me almost like a plumeria with the style of the leaves

You're absolutely right!
I have 2 of them right next to each other in the picture and they both look just like that.

It's amazing how different species of bananas are very different and have their own unique features.

I am not certain, but the blue java that is in a saucer looks like namwa. Other one looks like bj.

I believe you are referring to the bigger one ontop - yes, I believe so as well. I got it as a Tissue Culture.

It looks a lot like my Namwa TC. For that exact reason I got the smaller one as a true pup.
It's small but it's growing fast and I think will likely outgrow the other one very soon.

I'll just have to wait and find out to see what the TC really is

Just wanted to post a update on some of my bananas

Here is my Super Dwarf Cavendish! It's become one of my favorite plants!
It's been doing amazing in this big pot and it just put out its first pup! w00t!




My Plantain rhizome ended up sending out TWO shoots!
Both are growing very vigorously although the one from the old 'main' stem is growing slightly faster.



Both of my Niño bananas have been growing just as vigorously!
I love the look of the solid bright green color they have!

Here's one of them


My other Niño has been getting a bit sunburned in this Texas heat due to it being in a corner with less wind but it's still thriving.
It also just put out TWO Pups!! It's only been on the ground for a month, Amazing!
Growing from a rhizome is the way to go.




My Red Bananas have started growing and they already have their distinctive Red stems!
This one is sending out TWO shoots like my Plantain rhizome did!
The cigar leaf on one of them them was sunburned yesterday so I think pill bugs ate the dead parts.



This Red started growing much earlier so it got a head start and is much bigger.



Lastly... by far my most VIGOROUS growing bananas have been my Orinocos!
Here is a comparison picture I took of one of them on early July....



This is it now.
That tiny pup is now bigger than the mother was along with another pup it sent out


Growth has not been hindered at all by the pups, it's been growing just as fast as my other Orinoco in the back that had no pups at all until just last week.
The fence is 6ft for reference

Wow! Can't believe the main shoot returned AND it went up a pup and they are both growing! Nice! (Although a little apprehensive of that praying hands going in the ground )

Yeah I will take a panoramic shot once I have some more bananas on the ground.
Probably once I have the Praying Hands in the ground which should be pretty soon
