Hi All,
Relatively new banana grower here - We've had them in the garden for a couple of years in England, UK (pictures below). They seem to do fine outside with some winter protection, and are now about 7 ft tall. I've tried growing some from seeds this summer, but with no heat mat proprgator, only got 1 to survive, and it doesnt look healthy. Is this little one going to make it? Is there anything i can do to help? I also bought a plant for my partner, planning to overwinter it indoors and put in the ground in spring, but it is now wilting severely, and i wonder if i can do anything to help this one too! Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance ![]() I've added the photos to my gallery, hopefully all can see them! Banana Gallery - Gorgreal Gallery |

Well, the seedling does not appear to be a banana at all. If you got them off the internet from some random source chances are it was not a banana at all, most are fake.
Your other plants appear to be perfectly healthy Musa basjoo bananas, no real problems I can see.

Firstly, thank you for the reply
![]() The indoor is indeed a Basjoo, the 2 outdoor i was told were Sikkimensis but it doesnt get many stripes at all, maybe just a couple here and there so could well be Basjoos as well. Great to hear the indoor is looking good still - Is it just wilting because we've got the heating on now? Have to say im gutted that the seedling isn't a banana though The only other seed that germinated died very early, so i cant send a picture, but it certainly looked like a young nana to me. I got them from Jungle Seeds, which has a really really good reputation, ill give them a call if whatever this is survives! Thanks again! |

HI Gabe,
I've done a bit more research and my seedling does look like the tiny ones i can find online of the type this is (musa nagensium on the label), although most of the ones i found were crossed with other types, so could be a mis noma? Anyway, if it survives the winter, ill certainly post some more pics to show its development, whether it ends up being a nana or something else ![]() Thanks again for your previous reply ![]() |
