Ante, in the more recently developed areas the power is run underground. Not sure if that for looks, safety, or if it's easier to maintain.

Nana, lets bring this thread back to life. Here is the Tiki area, just planted about 12 (dont know the name)red plants along the fence.I also mounted the tv on a bracket and also set up the speakers with the amp. Can't wait to sit down with a glass of red wine,an expensive cigar, and some good jazz and blues to go along with it.

Greenster, looks like you brought more than the thread back to life! Can't wait to join you at the Tiki for some wine, and music. I'll pass on the cigar though lol. Everthing is looking great!

Beautiful gardens everyone, I especially like the landscape pics with wonderful palms in the background. Special thanks to Greenie and NANAMAN. Really great pics!

We should do something about this, Ante.

This entire power distribution network in USA is very, very badly planned and put into practice. We were actually learning at the university how not to screw the power network like that of Northern America.
But back to your post... its because of looks, safety and it's easier to maintain underground. Just like any other wiring (optics, metallic cables...).

I'm still working on my yard
Cleaned out 40' along the back fence, getting ready to put a patio in
I had to move the black raspberry bushes that I planted years ago
I opened this are up to the pool in '08, just getting back to the patio now
Patio will be about 15'x16' 6", picked up enough free 18" blocks off craigslist

I'm leaving about a 3' area along the fence for a garden
I'm hoping the 2 Rhody's I uncovered will get bigger
I also uncovered some monarda that I put out there a few years ago
Lilac bushes are starting to bloom

Doesn't look like much right now, still need to haul away debris
The PT board along the fence is to discourage skunks from digging
My yards mostly fenced in, but they still wander in & then want to dig their way out

I built a new patio out back behind the pool -patio blocks were free
It's about 15x15', more room to spread out, table & chairs were free
Plus moving the big swing to the back leaves room for a row of loungers near the pool
All the landscape timbers were free
Picked up 11 of the loungers off craigslist for free
So I nice free addition...just took some labor
And now have gardens along 3 sides of this area

We've been working a couple of years on our yard here on Mindanao Island in Southeast Asia. We work on it, take a week or so off then return to see how many weeds have taken over!

Jack Daw, to be exact, we're at Lat. 8.2, Long. 125. Informally, this is northern Mindanao Island in the Philippines; we're about an hour S.E. from Cagayan de Oro, near Camp Phillips in Libona Municipality, Bukidnon Province. We're "out in the sticks" here, really... not on any maps, and Google Earth doesn't show much. All I know is that I farm bananas amongst our coconut trees and we're surrounded by Del Monte pineapple plantation!
