1st and foremost anybody dealing with this article blast I hope you are safe and warm.

Is there any hope?

As most of you know I have been on here for several years now and was growing about 40 different varieties. I always take extra measures yearly to ensure minimal loss however with what Texas and the Houston area is presently deal with I fear for the worst. Every year I remove all the leaves. Cover and wrap with freeze cloth and wrap with Surran wrap. Then I cover with at least a 1ft or 2 of mulch.
I also had pups in the heated greenhouse. Unfortunately all was without power for 24hrs straight. Going off at night while I was sleeping.
Our Temps have been down in the single digits for a period of time and are now hovering in the mid 20's

Experts I would like your opinion. Is their any chance of survival? I am just sick. Will not unwrap until we are completely out in the clear. Please let me know what the experts think.

Very sad what is happening in TX. Hate top see how bad the water leaks will be when everything thaws out.

I don't know that anyone can say what will happen with your bananas. If the ground freezes, it will probably be ugly. Surviving a cold night is one thing, but endless hours of below freezing can begin to work its way through even the best defenses. Sounds like you have done all that you can, and done it well. Now you just have to hope for the best

We have had 5 wind evens here in San Diego season, the last one with winds 50 mph and more. Most plants have one or two leaves at best and they mostly look about as useful as a garden rake because there is so little leaf material left. Will make for an ugly start to spring but they will come back. It is as bad as I have ever seen it here.

Sadly your weather is a lot more serious right now.

We...US..I am powerless what is dealt to us in the winter.
With the unpredictable low nighttime temps you will see which the plants in your garden are champs.
Plants in the garage even have shown differt paths
As a learning tool see what has endured the cold snap and plant the same plants.

Watch your plants closely.......see what they do.....like i have to mention...

This is a weather fluke event however it teaches us the minute intricacies of temperature change.....to your tropical garden.

I have been thinking of you and all your banana plants. So sorry you have to experience this. It has been a challenging winter here in San Diego as well. Most of my banana plants were damaged by cold temperatures. Surviving pseudostems were broken in half by some heavy winter storms. It is frustrating, but we are banana plant enthusiasts through and through and will not give up. Crossing my fingers that your plants will be fine. Stay warm and healthy yourself first.

Fellow Texan John Reno here. Well, how about a follow-up? Did everything survive and come up from the roots? I think everything that was alive before the frost made it for me. I need to revise my list as I have lost or given up on a few over time.

i lost was Virupakshi. My bananas have all continued growing where they left off and I lost very little height. My list has been updated and I can't wait to see who sends up a flower 1st. I had thought my little Ensete Glaucum that I had started from seed 2yrs ago was a goner, didn't see much signs of life so pulled her out of the ground and potted her 2 weeks ago and since then she is starting to grow, so happy about her. .
Feeling blessed thata for sure. I am so happy yours are making a return. Hope we never have to go threw something like this again.
