Sveeden Colling
Hello, I am Zanana the Banana Mana and have been a banana freak for about 4 days now. I have ordered my first plant, a Musa Basjoo, which should arrive shortly. I am going to use a wooden shipping crate (about 45 gallons) as a container. Painted it black, lined it with plastic and drilled 15 one inch holes in the bottom, and screened them off. The plan is to pick up some soil tomorrow and lighten it up with perlite and leca balls. bananas.org has a wealth of information and is an essential bookmark for people like myself: Banana Noobs! Thanks

Yeah thank you I can be a real jaw breaker. Bought a load of perlite and nutes today, I have enough soil and leca balls to make the world turn round and I anxiously await the arrival of my banana plant. I was expecting it today but ALAS.

Hope your delivery works out better than mine did as I found out this week.
I ordered plants from Thailand and US Customs confiscated and destroyed them...Uggg Won't order from that company again since it was there fault the package never got delivered...needed a phyto cert. it didn't have, so customs incinerated the plants. I even paid extra for the clean bill of health...Oh well try try again live and learn. Your enthusiasm is duly noted, but read, read, read... everytime I come here I find something I didn't know before... Read just about anything by Richard (Hermitian Operator) he seems to be our "MYTH BUSTER" I like his threads! Read anything by Gabe15 (MC Banana Commander) he's gonna know just about any type of nana you can throw at him and it seems his life is dedicated to the subject! Don't forget Wiki (up top), that has a ton of good stuff! That will get you started...for now! You'll find more as you wonder about chasing your thoughts, ideas, questions and threads you happen upon that were just interesting, I will be honest with you, I killed few bananas before I got the hang of it. I don't kill them any more...wait till you get into seed searching, you have only just begun...LOL Good luck to ya and have fun in here...it's a good bunch of folks

Yes, one of the first posters I noticed was Richard the Hermit as it seems he knows what he is talking about. A true myth buster indeed! I put rocks and gravel in the bottom of my container, came indoors and saw that Richard said that was a huge NO NO. I of course researched it, and found he was right as rain so now we have a little rockpile in the pond.
