Pinwheel Hello to everyone!~

I've been lurking for a while now.. Thought I might post a hello.
I live in SE Kansas and am addicted to growing Tropical plants way out of their zone.. All of my tropical plants are container grown. I have lots of south windows for winter growing and one day hope to own a greenhouse..
I have neglected fert for all of my plants for the past month so they look a little on the pale side.. My youngest daughter is helping me get that corrected.. I have 4 kids. ages 9 - 18. My two youngest are the most interested in growing plants with mom.
Lots of great info here!!! Kids love the dancing Bananas..
Almost forgot.. I posted pics of my nanners in the gallery.. I have 3 at present.. Cal. Gold, Truly Tiny and Little Prince..

Hi and a very welcome Gina *Babyblue*. Indeed you have to water and feed your plants well especially when they are in containers. Saying that I suddenly remember we have also some info about that in the WIKI.

Thanks for the welcomes and the 411..
The little guys were potted up and the cali gold got a good feeding..
what is the general rule of thumb for Fert after potting up?? Do I need to wait? I have my own soil mix same as what I use for most of my tropicals. cactus mix, orchid mix, perilite, and regular potting soil.. none of that feeds for 3 months stuff..
I will be taking new pics tomorrow..

I have seen a few names I know from other forums.. nice to see familiar "faces" and good to meet new ones!!!

Welcome!!!

I fertilize with organic matter (compost) right away, it goes in the pot with the soil.
After a few weeks, I might throw some slow release osmocote or the like on them.
You could use a little though in the beginning, and slowly start to add more as you watch the effects. There's no real 3 month rule with bananas.
The more you fertilize them, the faster they grow. And if you burn the plant, it'll grow fast enough to replace that growth real soon anyway. Unlike orchids, etc.
Anyway, welcome aboard!

Hi Gina:
Nice to see you here. And welcome.
Growing bananas is my craze now. I lost my computer including the internet andI am just using my kids computer now.
I've just got my first Sweeteart pup separated from its mother yesterday and I will post it soon.

Thanks mediahound!! I will fert them next time I water.

Hey Ben!~ I'll keep an eye out for the new pics.. sorry to here about your computer.. I got some pics taken today.. I'll try and get them posted.. was during the heat of the day so every thing was pouting.. I'm ready for fall.. and then back to complaining about how cold it is and wanting spring to get here.. LOL wish spring and fall would last a bit longer.. and PLEASE NO MORE RAIN!!!! I present all of my nasty little rain clouds to all those who need the rain.. *does indian rain dance to send rain clouds to California* Just when it starts to dry enough to do something it rains again.. It's supose to be sunny all week.. but I'm not holding my breath!!! ya might check my thread on "local flooding" on the citrus forum to catch up on what I've been up to the past month..
the bananas loved the rain.. but not so happy with the heat..
the more I look around this forum the more bananas I want!!!

Thanks for a great forum with lots of good info!! leaves me with not too many questions to ask though.. I'm sure that will change as I get more babies to care for though..
