Bananas Brindando Cheers!

I am new to growing bananas save for the 2 dwarf cavendish that I almost killed with neglect and a hard freeze last winter. I split them into 4 plants (not sure if I should have done that so early) and 3 lived and seem to be doing well. I just ordered a red dwarf lady finger type, a mysore, a gran nain, and an apple banana.
After a period of being ill and neglecting my yard, I have come back with a vengeance. I started my fall vegetable garden last month and will continue to start seeds through next month. I also have my sights set on 3 blueberry bushes and some thornless blackberries. If I can find the space, I may grow some muscadines as well. I have 2 lemon, 2 lime, and 2 orange trees and many pineapple plants. I am running out of space! I happened upon this sight while searching for info on growing bananas. I live in Deltona, Florida in Zone 9B. I am interested in hearing success stories on actually getting bananas from the plants. I found conflicting info on fertilizer - one says 8-10-8, UF says 3-1-6 with micronutrient spray and another source says to use ammonium sulfate 21-0-0. I have used 6-6-6 and added coffee grounds occaisonally. If you have some advice for me, I would appreciate it. My son loves bananas and I would love for him to be able to walk out the door and pick them.

I have 1 lemon, 1 lime, a few thornless blackberries, 2 Mandarin trees & a calamondin...amongst dozens of Banana plants!!! Then there's the pomegranate trees...and I've ordered some Tifblue blueberries which should come soon.
I've just started my second pineapple plant from a top.

My salsa garden is still going/growing crazy for the moment!
Brussel Sprouts are going in shortly!!!

I am new to bananas this year myself, but know that I'm ready for them to fruit next year!!!
We want to pick them off the plant too!!!
The kids can hardly wait!!!

Welcome aboard, Kakeri ! We have a very friendly & info-packed site going here. Glad to hear you're feeling so much better! And Luv Muscadines, put in two vines a couple of years ago, myself. You'll find tons of info & lots of experts, here, and plenty of people hard at work studying lots of methods for getting nanners right off their trees.
If ya have any questions about using the forum, just ask.
Enjoy!
BTW, a rule of thumb with banana fertilizer is 1 part nitrogen to 1.5 parts potassium. A good blend would be 2-1-3 (nitrogen-phosphorous-potassium).
Hope that helps.

Cheryl , Brussel Sprouts...? Total YUM!! My Fave of the entire vegie world!! Wanna learn to cook those, myself.... see ya on chat sometime.
