Default Computer date and time question

Recently, my computer had been acting up and, when I brought it in for service, the guy said we would have to wipe it clean and start over. I am gradually getting things back, but some things come back a little different from what they were. One of the things is the date and time, in the lower right hand corner. I had it set up to read day, date and 24 hour time, ie: Monday, 8 Nov. 2010, 1430. Now I just get the time as AM and PM, with no day or date. I know there is a pretty simple way to change this, but I can't find it. Can anyone help?
Also, the numbers are a little off the screen, as shown. The bottom portion can't be seen. ( I had to reproduce this, so it wouldn't be covered by the BANANAS. org logo, but that's about what it looks like.) Is there any way to raise these numbers a tiny bit?
Thanks for any help.
