Plantain (Turkish Giant)

Does anyone know about this one? I found a source of seeds, and I was wondering if this was just another name for something else.

Re: this is something my dad sent to me this morning

Don't worry MS Kitty. I think most understand that, and realize that it can be hard to be a single parent. My heart goes out to those.

Re: seed ID help from you floridians out there

The one from Naples looks like a form of the Flamboyant tree, or Poinciana tree. It looks like the type with yellow flowers, because of the length of the seed pods.

Re: This is one large pup.

Well, I am a bit confused. What would be the benefits to keeping only one or two pups going in a mat, verses the commercial way of more than four or six?

Re: This is one large pup.

Thanks for clearing that up, although I would think that the corm IS part of the root system, just like the rhizome of a bamboo is. Bamboo is similar in being that its rhizome too needs to be...

Re: This is one large pup.

I see then that bananas and bamboo have a few things in common. That being that both will get larger, until it reaches its max. size once the clump, or in this case the mat is large enough to support...
