Re: Dwarf Red in the north.
I grew a 'dwarf' red a few years back. It was one of the most robust bananas I ever grew. The p-stem was very thick and strong. The leaves were thicker than any other I had. A gust of wind that would...

Monstera obliqua wanted
I'm looking for a Monstera obliqua, but NOT a Monstera adansonii. I mention this here because M. adansonii is frequently passed off as M. obliqua. Definitely not the same plant. M. obliqua has more...

Re: Who's growing caterpillars ?
Figured out what was eating my Desert Rose leaves - Oleander Hawkmoth. Green version of a hawk-moth. These guys don't even make cocoons; they just lay on the dirt until they emerge. They were brought...

Re: Blue Java Pups
Mine is barely 5 ft high, and it has 2 pups. I didn't do anything special; I just stuck it in a very large pot (our lousy soil is mostly clay), and up they came.

Re: Still Curious
The easy way to distinguish a GM is the red-tinged wide open petioles. I couldn't tell for sure on your photos, but I don't think yours has...

Re: Worrisome leaves- BBTV and BSV?
Aphids are moved around by ants; they are like cattle for the ants. The ants move them to prime 'grazing' areas, then feed off the 'honeydew' that they exude out the back.

They are edible. They are just variegated forms of the Maoli Maoli which are edible.

Re: Worrisome leaves- BBTV and BSV?
Looks like it has the narrow leaves, the j-hooks are obvious, and showing some of the 'morse-code' appearance, too. The pups look good. If it has the virus, it may not even show for up to 5 months....
