Musa Nono

Anyone ever heard of this banana? Someone gave it to me Thursday. It is maroon & green. At first glance, it looks like an ornamental, however, he claims it makes edible fruit, but it will be a while...

Re: Dwarf Red in the north.

I grew a 'dwarf' red a few years back. It was one of the most robust bananas I ever grew. The p-stem was very thick and strong. The leaves were thicker than any other I had. A gust of wind that would...

Monstera obliqua wanted

I'm looking for a Monstera obliqua, but NOT a Monstera adansonii. I mention this here because M. adansonii is frequently passed off as M. obliqua. Definitely not the same plant. M. obliqua has more...

Buddah Sugar Cane

Looking for a stem cutting of this red & green cane that has some swelling between nodes, hence the name. Prefer a Hawaiian source to make it easier to obtain. Outside of Hawaii, it is frequently a...

Re: Ripen bananas on the tree or cut once start turning yellow?

My experience with Dwarf Red was that you had to leave it on the bunch until they were ready to fall off. For some reason the reds take a lot longer to ripen than the yellows.

Re: How do you if your sugar cane plants are dead?

Not enough water? Mine do not like to ever dry out, so I'm generous with the watering, and the litle shoots never fail to grow. Mine is the variegated Hawaiian one.

Re: What kind of variegated are these?

The variegation remembles A'e A'e, but some of the lighter areas have darker color on the 'ribs'. I'd not seen that on A'e A'e before.

Re: Who's growing caterpillars ?

Figured out what was eating my Desert Rose leaves - Oleander Hawkmoth. Green version of a hawk-moth. These guys don't even make cocoons; they just lay on the dirt until they emerge. They were brought...

Re: Blue Java Pups

Mine is barely 5 ft high, and it has 2 pups. I didn't do anything special; I just stuck it in a very large pot (our lousy soil is mostly clay), and up they came.

Re: Still Curious

The easy way to distinguish a GM is the red-tinged wide open petioles. I couldn't tell for sure on your photos, but I don't think yours has...

Re: Not banana-related, but I am dumbfounded at this!

Perhaps it is a listing with the collusion of Amazon where they are attempting to discourage anyone from buying it. The best way for them to do such a thing would be to have some sort of code in that...

Re: Worrisome leaves- BBTV and BSV?

Aphids are moved around by ants; they are like cattle for the ants. The ants move them to prime 'grazing' areas, then feed off the 'honeydew' that they exude out the back.

Re: Looking for double mahoi tree. Florida Hill failure

Last Saturday I saw double mahoi for sale at Koolau Farms in Kaneohe. Not too far from the Hawaiian memorial park cemetery if you know where that is. I think they wanted $44 for each one. (pricey)

Re: How to block a banned user/scammer?

If there is an ACL (access control list) for the interface these connections come from, I am thinking that a block could be do-able.

Re: Worrisome leaves- BBTV and BSV?

Any nanners within 4 feet are at risk from what I've read in the past.

Re: Super Dwarf Cavendish Pups

Oh, I'm interested, but I'd not be able to bring them into this state. These guys are extremely 'anal' about getting any new diseases.

Re: How to block a banned user/scammer?

I've never seen those names b-4.

(for all I know I may be fake, too. Nope, it still feels like the real me)

Re: AEAE pups

They are edible. They are just variegated forms of the Maoli Maoli which are edible.

Re: Worrisome leaves- BBTV and BSV?

Looks like it has the narrow leaves, the j-hooks are obvious, and showing some of the 'morse-code' appearance, too. The pups look good. If it has the virus, it may not even show for up to 5 months....

Re: Anybody else in Hawaii?

Well, there's Gabe, and I think RobGuz is on another island. I'm on Oahu, but only have a very small number of plants at this point. I think there are 2 others, too, but can't recall who. just do a...
