Re: Dendrobium Anucha Flare
As from my experiences with growing orchids and talking to others who grow and breed orchids, any seed-grown orchid can, potentially, be given it's own clonal name. The term 'variety' is used in...

Re: Dendrobium Anucha Flare
I am very aware of the naming processes of orchids. I think the problem here, is that Den. Anucha Flare, if you are correct in that there is only ONE existing plant of that grex, that it does not...

Re: Dendrobium Anucha Flare
This is a very cool hybrid. You need to clarify something for me, though. You said that it is a mericlone. You can't mericlone a hybrid, only a specific clone. If you are saying there are some...

Re: Balboa Park Botanical Building
Nice! Were any of those, or any other orchids, naturallized, actually growing attached to trees? That would be cool to see! They have the right climate there for some of the sub-tropical epiphytes.

Re: Autumn in the "Forest City"
Not really. It's winter in Canada, so cold and snow. Although for southern Ontario, yes, it would be a bit cold. Unfortunately, the majority of Canada's population lives in zone 5 or up. For me,...

Re: Autumn in the "Forest City"
Yeah, Southern Ontario is pretty mild. We have even had at least one Christmas with almost no snow. Very rare for us.
Try -27C with no windchill.
I wish the snow would be gone by March!

Re: Autumn in the "Forest City"
Being from Winnipeg, it's always surprising to see pics of open water with lots of snow in December. It's obviously not that cold where you are. Either that, or you have had a thaw recently.
Nice...

Snow in Vancouver
To anyone living in the Vancouver area:

Sunfish - nice photos. Thanks for sharing. I've only been to San Diego once, and only went to the zoo. I remember Balboa Park being there, but don't recall going in.

Re: Balboa Park Botanical Building
Which picture are you referring to? I didn't see any in the photos. I think you mean carnivorous plants, though. There were some Paphiopedilum orchids, which have a pouch, which might have made...

Re: What's the name of this plant? Thanks.
This thread is simply to identify the photos in the first post. The photos are of Impatiens, and I believe they are from New Guinea. (Btw, Madegascar Periwinkle is in fact from Madegascar too). ...

Re: What's the name of this plant? Thanks.
Check out the links I posted above. The Periwinkle mentioned is not vinca, but Madegascar Periwinkle - Catharanthus roseus.
The plant shown in the photo is New Guinea Impatiens. The flower...
