Default Snow in Vancouver

To anyone living in the Vancouver area:

I heard a forecast of 5-10cm of snow in the Vancouver area! Is this very unusual for November? How will this affect the plants? I heard it has already snowed in Burnaby. Will some plants suffer if it freezes like this then thaws again, before you even really have winter? If it's supposed to be as bad a winter as forecast, how will you protect your plants?

We just had a storm here, with a good amount of snow. It's actually good, becuase it came before the temps got too low, so it can insulate the plants.
