Re: Cut my nanners back too soon!
Is there a benefit to cutting them back?
I simply loaded up leaves and mulch layers onto my musa basjoo without cutting anything back. We got our first hard freeze yesterday, but I got the...

Re: What'cha got sprouting? (other plants)
Here's a new gardening blog on my amorphophallus titanums from the time they sprouted for an entire year. I don't have photos of their current size since almost all of them have been sold off to...

Re: Comfrey
I'm interested in trading some comfrey for a plumeria plant. I'm finding that bocking 14 is pretty dependable, and I've never tried to get rid of it since they are just planted at the base of fruit...

Re: Comfrey
I ended up getting it last year, and it is extremely easy to propagate.
This year I already have 100+ plants that should be a mature size starting out. There's no way for me to dig them out with 3+...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?
Most of the titanum seedlings have fully uncurled their leaves now. It's only a matter of time for them to produce their first shoots and get much bigger than they are. That will likely be by around...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?
If you are in a tropical climate where the temperature never gets anywhere close to freezing, this is a very interesting plant. Otherwise, they make pretty nice houseplants since they just keep...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?
I just got the seeds off eBay. It does cost about $1.70 per seed even ordering in a bigger quantity.
Here are some of the bigger seedlings. The tallest one is over 8 inches tall, and many of them...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?
Here are some of the picture of my latest batch of a titanum seedlings. They come up at different rates, and generally all of them will sprout. Some may be genetic misfits, but I think a majority of...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?
Do a titanum seedlings have the capability to give off toxins and kill other plants in the same tray?
The dominant one has grown larger while the weaker one eventually rotted away as the other one...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?
What's the point of bringing it out of the soil?
For my amaryllis, or other bulb/corm plants, I simply like to leave them in their pots through the winter, and only up-pot them if they are getting...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?
If Amorphophallus titanum is a tropical species, then wouldn't that make it easier to take care of since it won't necessarily need cooler temperatures?
My idea is to simply keep them under room...

I notice that most people on the forums grow amorphophallus konjac more than any of the other ones. Is it the easiest one to grow?

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?
If the leaf gets too tall, couldn't you just prevent it from coming out of dormancy during the winter by keeping the tuber in cooler conditions?
Also, if the leaf will get too tall for keeping...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?
I guess one way to pump more energy into these guys is to put humidity domes over them and breath some CO2 into those domes, but I'm not sure if that is worth the effort. It seems to help with my...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?
Nice pictures.
I saw the original seed look shrivel up after the leaf comes out. I'm hoping for them to gain as much energy as possible, but even from a seed, they take a very long time to go from...

No. I think there should be enough fungicide and the windowsill still appears to be very cold so they haven't started growing yet. Growth may not occur until the second part of March when...
