What are these?

Hi,
Got them from an Asian supermarket, so I don't think they're anything rare. They're very sweet once ripen, much better than the Chiquita that's ubiquitous in Vons, Albertson's,..... I'm hoping...

Re: Thousand Fingers fruiting in Z9

Beautiful! Congrats. Mine also put out a handful of bananas, but before they could ripen, the wind toppled the plant.

How to tell these plants apart, based on their leaves?

Royal Poinciana vs. Tamarind vs. Jacaranda.

Of course if the fruits are visible then it's easy.
I have a Royal Poinciana and Tamarind, both about 5' tall. I grew the Tamarind from seed, and got the...

Re: Do you guys think this one is being over watered?

So most likely a normal reaction to hot dry weather?

Re: How to thicken up banana trunks?

Random application of tropical tree fertilizer and osmocote plus. Occasional steer manure. Maybe I need to stick to a regular schedule. Thanks

How to thicken up banana trunks?

I notice that several of mine are much skinnier compared to years past, even the fruits themselves are smaller. Is it a fertilizer issue? They do get plenty of water.
Thanks

Re: Do you guys think this one is being over watered?

Thank you both for your responses, much appreciated!

Do you guys think this one is being over watered?

New leaves look fine. Then they start getting black and brown along the edges. Does not look like normal aging to me....

Re: Banana trunk is too skinny.

Is it OK to just sprinkle on the ground and water it in, or do I need to work it into the soil? I'm looking for the easy way out.:ha:

Re: Banana trunk is too skinny.

My yard is what one may refer to as "density planting" :ha:. I crammed a bunch of different plants in there. I'm not sure shading is the primary issue, I get intense full sun all the time. The...

Banana trunk is too skinny.

Some of the stalks on my bananas are not as thick as in years past, this has caused them to fall over, even with minimal wind. What caused this condition? Lack of fertilizer? Too many other trees...

Re: Best way to propagate guava?

Thanks!

Best way to propagate guava?

Root cuttings? I heard this has low success rates, and the plant is weaker, due to not having a tap root.

Grafting: which style is best? Cleft, or veneer?

Airlayering? This also doesn't have a tap...

Reds?

I picked up some "Red" bananas from Albertson's supermarket. Waited a few days for them to soften up, I found them to be very good tasting. So now I'm looking to plant one. The label indicates...

Is it possible to overwater a maurelli?

This plant is against a west facing wall. I put it there over 2 years ago. Initially, the direct sun and heat reflected off the stucco wall was too much, causing the leaves to wilt and burn. I put up...

Tamarinds?

Several of the seeds sprouted, they're now about 2' tall, still in small containers. Can tamarinds survive 30 F in the winter if I put them in the ground? Do they even fruit in containers?
Thanks,
