When you get to the small ones that just drop off, they are the males. You can cut them off below the Bananas, AKA the females.

Are you getting the plants wet? If watering at night or evening water the base only. If you water in the morning wet the whole plant, it will have time to dry. Is the ground too wet? Clay doesn't dry...

Goggle Plantskyyd, it's the repellent that I use. It has kept the deer and other critters away from our plants. The cat helps also.
