Re: Other Michigan Banana people?

Re: basjoo withered in storage

There is nothing poor about the look of that banana. I think it looks great. How old was the P-stem when it flowered? I know you over-winter your bananas under your house so I would expect a full...

Re: basjoo withered in storage

That’s what my basjoo’s look like now after being taken out of dormancy and cleaned up. Did the pups on basjoo resume growth or did they choke? I have a few pups that are smaller on mine, but are not...

Re: activated charcoal in seed germination?

If you are looking for something that will aid in germination of seeds you can try Gibberellic acid which breaks seed dormancy and causes rapid germination. If I recall the mix 2000 ppm.

Re: activated charcoal in seed germination?

This document was produced for in vitro micro-propagation through embryo rescue. If you add charcoal to your potting soil it will not aid in germination, but rather reduce the chance of fungus...

Re: Seperating a growing pup?

I don't think it matters as much for large corms if the root structure remains intact, but if you want root structure to grow from the corm, the corm must seek out water. When you deny them water...

Re: Seperating a growing pup?

The best way to keep the pup alive is to make sure you get as many roots as you can and a piece of the mother corm with it. The mother banana will quickly recover from loosing some corm. Also, one...
