It hasn't really made the national news. Probably because nobody died. But 1 week ago Hurricane Iselle hit our island and was downgraded to a Tropical Storm at the last minute, preserving the fact...

Re: Muraru Mshale

Looking good.

maybe it was the muraru mulalu that was the tart tasting one. I think the mulalu also ripens yellow, and has similiar giant bunches.

Ah, yes here's a post by gabe about the mulalu,...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

First harvest of Mai'a 'Upehupehu, which might possibly be Iholena Lele. Difficult to tell because this was a bizarre bunch which started developing inside the trunk and had to be c-sectioned out (no...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

Taste like a homegrown Cavendish, the Veinte Cohol on the other hand...a whole lot of tangy flavor.

Re: Jelled nectar- who has it?

Now it's a nice edible treat that might kill you.

It is estimated that seven to ten million people are infected by leptospirosis a year. The...

Re: Definative Days to Harvest list?

That list was made in Puerto Rico and is riddled with errors. I grow in Puerto Rico and don't use the data in that list, some of the basic "Flower to Harvest" data is very inaccurate, 7 weeks early...

Re: Definative Days to Harvest list?

I think it mostly comes down to their genetics. Pisang Awak ("Namwah") varieties have ABB genomes and Cavendish varieties have AAA genomes. With some notable exceptions (e.g., the plantains, AAB...

Re: Definative Days to Harvest list?

For me, Cavendish types (Double Mahoi & "Ladyfinger") take any where from a couple weeks less to 4 weeks longer than Namwah. Williams seem to take more like 4 weeks longer than Namwah. So overall...

Now I get it. Yes, there are a lot that aren't mentioned.

I would reiterate the point that where you grow bananas will affect the relative time to harvest. A variety that is fast relative to...
