Re: Is there any way to encourage the growth of pups on my Musa Tanee?

Thanks. I believe this is pupping relatively early since it has only been actively growing around 2 months, forming a tiny pup at the base probably about an inch long off the corm. I did fertilize it...

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10229591344661040

This banana has at least doubled in height and diameter and barely appears to be growing a pup off one of the eyes. It has 3 others which I...

Re: Comfrey

I ended up getting it last year, and it is extremely easy to propagate.

This year I already have 100+ plants that should be a mature size starting out. There's no way for me to dig them out with 3+...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?

Most of the titanum seedlings have fully uncurled their leaves now. It's only a matter of time for them to produce their first shoots and get much bigger than they are. That will likely be by around...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?

If you are in a tropical climate where the temperature never gets anywhere close to freezing, this is a very interesting plant. Otherwise, they make pretty nice houseplants since they just keep...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?

I just got the seeds off eBay. It does cost about $1.70 per seed even ordering in a bigger quantity.

Here are some of the bigger seedlings. The tallest one is over 8 inches tall, and many of them...

Do a titanum seedlings have the capability to give off toxins and kill other plants in the same tray?

The dominant one has grown larger while the weaker one eventually rotted away as the other one...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?

I notice that most people on the forums grow amorphophallus konjac more than any of the other ones. Is it the easiest one to grow?

I've never grown them before, but am starting with titanum because...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?

If the leaf gets too tall, couldn't you just prevent it from coming out of dormancy during the winter by keeping the tuber in cooler conditions?

Also, if the leaf will get too tall for keeping...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?

I guess one way to pump more energy into these guys is to put humidity domes over them and breath some CO2 into those domes, but I'm not sure if that is worth the effort. It seems to help with my...

Re: anyone growing amorphophallus?

Nice pictures.

I saw the original seed look shrivel up after the leaf comes out. I'm hoping for them to gain as much energy as possible, but even from a seed, they take a very long time to go from...

I'm growing a bunch of amorphophallus titanum seedlings and I'm finding that they grow extremely slow to the point where you barely notice any difference from week to week. They are by south facing...

Re: Bringing bananas out of dormancy

No. I think there should be enough fungicide and the windowsill still appears to be very cold so they haven't started growing yet. Growth may not occur until the second part of March when...

Re: Time to put the bananas to sleep for the Winter

If it is not rotting, i would just check on it every couple weeks or so to make sure it is alright. Otherwise, if you want to be safe, you could just rub some fungicide powder all over the base, and...

Re: Time to put the bananas to sleep for the Winter

I think it may be better to have them stored up side down in the coolest spot you can find that doesn't get below freezing.

I had rotting issues with my ensete maureliis in the attic 2 weeks ago...

Re: Might get kinda cold 1st time greenhouse temp test

Here's the outdoor temperature at 15.3F against the unheated greenhouse temperature at 24.3F. With this big of a differential, it will need to get very cold to be a threat to the temperate bamboos...

Re: Wintering E. Maurellii in HZ8,-7 or 6?

Just updating again.

After 1 week of dusting the ensete maurelii with sulfur fungicide and putting them in a spot that is closer to the 40-45F range, it looks like the rotting has ceased. I'm not...

Re: Wintering E. Maurellii in HZ8,-7 or 6?

The temperatures were almost always at around 47-52F and I just had them sitting on top of the wood with nothing on them. I know it might get on the humid side there with no light.

The rot seemed...
