Mine has started blooming this week. I acquired my plant from Mark Collins in 2004 if I recall correctly.

I have a stand of them now, 4 to 6 going and 3 are on second year growth right now and are near 6 foot in height. Mine are not the tissue culture plants and were brought back from Mark Collins...

Darn 5 year old labels!

Well I have a plant I received from Mark Collins about 5 or 6 years ago during a visit. It's an Alpinia sp. and my tag has since faded but it is now in bloom. Let's see if the pics work.

I use the Banana specific fertilizer compounded by Stokes Tropicals and have been very pleased with it. You don't have to be concerned about ordering from them either. They will ship it out fast...

Alpinia hybrid seed pods

My current project has been an Alpinia hybrid. I crossed Alpinia henryi and Alpinia tonkinensis. These were appealing as a hybrid since the shells on each plant are opposite in coloration as well...

It's not a Musa but my Ensete superbum in the yard looks blueish when compared to the other Bananas.
