The low last night was 71, and it rained. The only way I convince myself that it is not the rainy season is the fact that it is dark when I get home. As far as I am concerned, the weather is perfect.

Midnight and the weather has warmed up to 78f/25c after weeks of cold rain - about 20 inches this month so far!! But it keeps the island green and we don't have to bother with rain catchment from roofs like the dry islands do. The night-time temps got down to 68f at the lows and the Dominicans had warm hats and padded jackets on - the Europeans just turned the fans off!!! lol!

Had a nice pleasant day in the 60s today but cold tonight. 35F as of 10pm, forecast to get down to 31F. Fourth frost this season. I've left some fruit bunches hanging and may harvest one or two tomorrow since they probably wont size up any more at this point.

Re: Current weather
High of 60F and low of 40 forcast for Fri and Sat.. Our coldest S Fla weather so far this winter. I'm wearing sweats and a hat already to walk the dog. Will have to protect the basil, artichokes and parsley. Need to take a closer look at the 3 bunches hanging to see how filled in they are.

NWS says it will be 41 here on Friday night and 44 on Saturday night. It will probably be a little warmer than that. NWS underestimates the warming influence of Lake Okeechobee. But really anything below 50 makes for unhappy plants.

I keep checking the forecast and it seems to be changing... how typical
I am doubting that we'll go into the 30s here, 40s are bad enough... not ready to protect plants yet ![]()

Checked my outside thermometer at 0630 and our low was 44F. It's 55 now.
Brought some recently potted seedlings in last night. Nothing that has been potted for a while so I don't find a kitchen full of ants again. A mistake not to be repeated. lol Everthing outside still looks good. Very thin coating of frost on the roof of the cars. |

Official low here was 40.5 at sunrise this morning. I moved all the sensitive plants into the shed and covered my germination chamber with a blanket yesterday. Everything seems to be unharmed... didn't see any signs of a frost.

Winter has finally arrived. And with a vengeance. Plenty of rain and cold temps. The bananas are surviving, but don't seem to be enjoying it. Tiny brown dots are appearing on the p-stems and petioles of the plants. I'm guessing this is a result of the cold. Absolutely no growth on Ice Cream (Tall Namwah) and Mysore, and the flower bud on Raja Puri has slowed to a crawl in its emergence. It's raining right now, and due to dip down to 36 at night in a few days.

Today was 43 and lots of fog, down to 29 tonight. Storm coming Wednesday, 80% ice to rain, 43 to 32. May be 2" of snow. Damn.
