Worst thing you could have in your back yard is a pig. Ours got an additional 3 rings today before the wife took his manhood. Kinda funny watchin' a chicken run around with a hog ball and the others chasing it for a piece... lol :^)

Michael -- Had friends back in NJ that kept pigs. Helped with slaughtering once. Got a big Durox hung by the hind feet and splayed, and it was the little brothers job to catch the guts when it all got cut loose. It was a big 'ol red Durox, and he fell down backwards when the load hit him. He got up and dumped the load into the pig pen. The squealing noise was deafening.

Long story short, if you think chickens chasing a piece of meat is funny you should see 60 to 70 squealing piglets chasing the ones with a piece of gut. Screaming their brains out. It lasted for an hour.

Salty -- Confirmed - the Havahart does not work on rabbits. Tried apples, peanutbutter and even a chunk of bacala - only caught rats, birds and a squirrel. Searching websites showed the following basic trap that looks like it may work. Components are cheap. Will be looking for a box when done here!

Dan

Homemade Rabbit Trap
Whether you are looking for a new pet, dinner, or need to do some rodent pest control, it is important to have a good rabbit trap. It's very simple to make homemade rabbit traps which are humane and fun. The following article will detail how to make primitive yet effective homemade rabbit traps.
Things You'll Need:
* Large Wooden box
* Piece of plywood
* Stick
* String
* Screw hook
* Carrot
Step1
Screw in the screw hook on the inside of the box in the center. This will serve as a pulley mechanism for the suspended carrot later in the process of doing rodent pest control.
Step2
Place the piece of plywood on a flat surface near a place where you have seen the bunnies. This way, they will not have to hunt out the bait. They will wait until your back is turned and take it.
Step3
Prop the box up with the stick so that there is enough room for the bunny rabbit to get underneath it.
Step4
Tie the string to the carrot. The carrot is the bait. You may choose to tie it in several spots so the rabbit does not just eat it without pulling the stick out. Run the string through the hook and out to the stick. Many people are not confident in this form of rodent pest control, but it can actually be a lot of fun.
Step5
Pull the string until the carrot is suspended several inches off the ground. This ensures that they bunny rabbit will have to give it a good tug in order to eat it. Once it is suspended, tie it carefully to the stick.
Step6
Sneak off and wait a bit. When you hear a thud, you might have got your mark. Pick up the plywood and the box together. If you put it on a table, you can easily work the bunny rabbit out and into a pillow case without touching it or hurting it. Then you can let him go somewhere very far away.

Yeah – like Michael’s house!!!

I did have some luck putting mothballs into my flower pots to keep the squirrels from digging in them, wonder if they would work for rabbits, my concern would be using them if small children are around. There are none in my area so...

Joan, I didn't know about the mothballs! And I didn't know they were a danger to kids. I haven't seen M-balls anywhere for a long time. Where do you get them?
My Grandma always stored all winter clothes in M-balls & I could smell them all the time when I was a kid. Is that what made me nuts? LOL
Hey Shreck, you keep on w/ those squirrels... I gotta set my trap & see what I get. Hopefully, no more raccoon or possum.

I get them at the Dollar Store and I think you can get them at Menards and Walmart, they melt in the humidity but thats OK only takes a few to a container.

My wife said, "They keep snake away". (SsHHhhh Ancient chinese (indian) secret!) lol I think mothballs can make you very sick (looks like sugar), smell like something else. I have some under my deck probably right next to the pygmy rattler (better start eatin' some squirrels or he's fired too) :^)

Well I found a an orangish lookin' Beetle (w/ wings) look alike with black dots on his back, not round but oval from head to tail. He was wearing out a new leaf on what I beleive is an Dwarf Orinoco (I know its not a Raja Puri like its suppose to be). I had to squish him before he took off. :^)

Well if you got one of those critters from the storage you just get them started and let one the critters finish up :^) I had a gator (7ft'er) on my back porch a number of years back down south of here. Well I corraled it out of the back yard so pets and kids didn't become bait. Fish & Game (A bunch of clowns that had to take a picture with it) picked it up on the double. :^)

That beetle w/ the black dots did the leaf damage. Now that's messed up! Glad I caught it before there was no leaf.

Came home today & the bait gone..trap closed & whole thing was moved!!!! A squirrel could not move it. It's reset w/ bait again...can't wait for a.m. to see what I get. I thought I got rid of all the possum & coons...hmmmm.
I have a crawlspace under my sunroom that they could be living in. I need to put a better skirt around it but I don't want to crawl in there & be face to face w/ momma coon protecting her babies!
