About 25 small green beans that I gave away. I'm hoping the mulching/composting/blue powder (hate using it) help get things moving now. I've been saving seeds (love this bean!) from the 2 plants I brought in a pot from Jville so I can plant more but only in cells--something eats them in the ground.

Over the last 5 years I have probably tasted most of the tropical fruit grown in S FL. On the tasting table at my rare fruit club. I have yet to enjoy a sapodilla, sapote or jackfruit. Started the habit of having a napkin in my left hand to quickly upchuck fruit I can't stand. Came to realize the problem is people bring in fruit that is always under or over ripe. They are saving the best for home.
Will never forget my first ever taste of jackfruit. It tasted so bad I regurgitated it all into my plate. Spoiled the nice piece of cheese cake someone baked. The awful taste lasted for hours. So now I bite off a very little piece - napkin in hand. Told everyone that jackfruit tasted like something that fell off the back end of Lassie!!! |

4 peppers from my potted plant which is growing well in not all day sun. I only meant to pick the 2 red ones but had to take the 2 green also because an armadillo decided to raid my potted garden (notice I didn't say "pot garden"). He broke the tall branch off holding the greens so I cut the plant back. He also dug up the miracle DC that arose from 4 poorly separated pups that were dead until last week when I noticed a tiny set of new leaves peeping out. Not sure if I found the corm but I did try to replant it. I can get another easily but what a disappointment.
On a high note...these are the very first bell peppers I have ever grown that did not have 1/4" walls and tasted like swill. Gave 1 red and green away. I cut into my saved red. Blocky, sweet and delicious!

Thank you! After all my failures in "alien land" this was beyond enticingly yummily sweet. I've had a some great red peppers in my lifetime but this was absolutely perfection! Even the green was amazing. (Yes, I've long known that homegrown plucked straight then nibbled are always tastiest but this was my 1st successful non hot pepper and I was totally awed by the intensity of flavor.)
Pots work but watering is clumsy so isn't the ultimate answer; has anyone tried building a wood "earth box" type system out of untreated pallets? (Can get those and I don't expect them to last more than 2 years.) Or have a link as to how to do it? I would like something with a reservoir (stupid heavy plastic on the bottom) with a drain that lets excess water escape but with an easy waterer PVC pipe included and my searches are coming up empty.

???
In my experience watering pots is easy with some 1/2" pipe, streamer heads, and automatic valve(s):
