pomelo is flowering again.. hopefully this time i get fruit
it all fell/ was knocked off last time
need to be more careful watering because i already knocked a blossom off

Oh drat. I recognize that plant but can no longer remember which species. I believe it's in the Kolanchoe family.

i was told it would help with swelling
place the leaf (whole not ground up) over the affected area
was the directions i was told.
my aunt wanted to give it a try but wanted to know more about the plant first
so this helps!

Yes there is a fragrance once the flowers open.
What I do with mine is usually mid to late in Dec I let the pots go dry, I don't mean bone dry lol and do that for a 2 or 3 weeks. Once they are watered properly in Jan they seem to burst. Just my two cents

Well ... I'll just post it here. Now due to your location, I'm fairly certain it's in a pot so it can be indoors during the winter.

As such, I'd feed it occasionally -- perhaps every 2-3 months with a 20-10-20 water-soluble Orchid food. It'll love it. Just don't feed it the month you take it indoors ... wait two months.

Now after 3 feedings (6-9 months), if it hasn't responded then supplement the next feeding (in addition to the 20-10-20) with a strong orchid bloom formula such as Hawaiian Bud & Bloom 5-50-17.

update on the pineapple and there is another one flowering now as well
couldnt wait for all the blossoms to open on the plumeria but i will post again once they do

BCIT cherry tree sale is an effort to revive rare varieties

The seedlings are the result of a 6-year UBC/BCIT program to save varieties at risk of disappearing. It's a plant sale that has been in the works for six years.
A program to save a few rare varieties of cherry trees — put on by the University of British Columbia and the British Columbia Institute of Technology— is culminating on Friday, as more than 300 seedlings are made available to the public.
Vancouver is known for its beautiful cherry blossoms which explode into bloom each spring, and many of those trees originally came as a gift from Japan after the First World War. Dozens of different varieties were included in the donation, which was meant as a memorial for Japanese soldiers who fought in the war. Some have flourished over the years, but other varieties have begun to disappear.
"If we lost them, they would definitely be gone forever, because we can't import any more cherry trees from Japan, because of virus quarantine issues," said BCIT instructor Keith Turner. Turner and his students in a biotechnology honours program at both UBC and BCIT have been working to collect some of the rarest varieties and reproduce them in test tubes in a process that takes two years before the little clones can be planted.
The hundreds of 12" - 20" seedlings look young, but since they're clones, they're actually about 100 years old. Some of the clones can be traced back to trees in Japan that are now more than 400 years old, according to Turner.

This tree was only about 2ft tall when I got it and now its over 6ft and flowered for the first time this spring!

As an experiment, last summer I planted amaryllis in my covered garden - I got them for Christmas and am not really into this type of plant (until now). I figured the bulbs would live or die after the summer so it would be no big deal if they did not survive.

FYI, my covered garden is 16' x 8' x 9'; it keeps things dry but inside temp is the same as the other side temp.

We had a nasty winter (for us) with a lot of wet snow and some minus temperatures so image my surprise when I noticed the bulbs growing this spring. Then I noticed a bud forming on one.
This is the result.......



Proof that amaryllis are hardy in zone 8 if kept dry.

I have a "Slumdog Millionaire" type story about how I discovered amaryllis. You know how people sometimes ask people of my age, "What were you doing when you first heard that John F. Kennedy was assassinated?"? At age 17, I must have been in high school but I have absolutely no memory of hearing about the assassination. But, the next day, on Saturday, November 23, 1963, I was with my friend shopping in downtown Chicago when I came upon the store front of Vaughan's Seed and Bulb. Co. which had a big display of potted blooming amaryllis. I also remember my friend telling me that his father cried about the assassination. Still, it was business as usual downtown.

I love the Amaryllis flowers. Every couple of years I would buy one. This year I am trying something new. I bought 250 seeds on EBay and planted them in my garden. I bet I have over 100 tiny plants so far. Not sure how many more will pop up or how I will overwinter them. What I do know is at maturity in 5 or so years, these plants will take up a fair amount of space. I am embracing the challenge.
