I think this is regular Syagrus, but Syagrus can make hybrids with Jubaea and Butia also.

I know of Silver Queen Palms being called Syagrus romanzoffiana var. litoralis and Syagrus litoralis. That name, Santa Catarina Syagrus, where is that from? Never seen it.

I figured it out after a horrible hard freeze in January of '010. It got down to 18F and half the queens in one yard died. The ones that had a white/gray colour to their trunk and petioles in places did not. Never even knew to look for the difference, that there was a difference.

They were more protected than the other ones that died but not enough to be the difference. 18F in the middle of the yard was still below 24F next to the house. Not THAT much of a difference.

All but one pygmy died too.

I wrote in another thread that I'm not a big fan of palms, though I have a few. In general, I don't find them all that attractive, though I like cases where they line driveways or streets, etc. I mentioned in the other thread that my dad's Mexican fan palms have got too tall and are a pain to trim at that height and the only way to shorten them is to cut them down. They are about 38 years old. At least I can spot his home from my home five miles away.

Thats almost all the same IMO. Literaly, Litoralis stend for "from the seashore", but U can find many debates arround like this one:
Hardiest Syagrus - PalmTalk
Anyway thats a great looking plant there and that seeds are worth waiting for.
