So excited to see my Blackberry Lily flowers after growing them from seed last year and seeing nothing but leaves. I didn't even know what color they'd be but here's my very first bloom this season...

Those are the same as my Blackberry Lilies. They are blooming right now. The heavy storms have unfortunately felled many of my plants, including these. Next year I'll be buying tons stakes in anticipation. They are a gorgeous bloom. Congratulations!

Howard...
Sorry to hear about your plants getting ruined! : ( Do you know if "Blackberry" Lilies are the same as "Toad" Lilies? Or are they two separate plants altogether? Are they called "Blackberry" because the seeds looks like little blackberries? Curious... : ) |

Totally different plants. And indeed, they are called Blackberry Lilies due to the look when they seed. Toad lilies are tricyrtis, and Blackberry lilies are belamcanda. Both simply beautiful plants!

Sherry, your collection is outstanding. I see why you are called the Hollyberry Lady. I don't have much luck with indoor plants due to low light. Only my kangaroo ferns don't seem to mind.

Gosh thanks, Howard...and Seth!
So you can see why I'm called The Hollyberry Lady, can ya?... ![]() Just sent a huge "2 in 1" female/male Hollyberry shrub to a pal in the US yesterday and it was super tough to pack securely. Sure hope it makes it safely and undamaged... : ) |

Oh my gosh you have the greenest thumb around, I so love Holly, had it growing in my front yard when I lived in southern Oregon, that and an Oak tree in the neighbors yard full of balls of Mistletoe, oh well. I shall relive those times through your pictures, they are the best, you must have a lot of space for growing there!

Thanks, Penny & Joan!
The shrub you guys commented on is called "blue princess' and it is a hybrid variety paired with 'blue prince", known for being one of the most prolific berry producers of all the hollies! It's parents are "blue boy" and "blue girl" which are lovely specimens also but the female isn't quite as showy nor abundant with it's fruit-set as the "blue princess" is. I enjoy the hollyberries over winter against the snow because they're so cheerful and pretty, but they're stunning in summer too. The bluish holly leaves are very appealing. Brings back fond childhood memories for me as well as many people. Remember the coloring book with the green holly leaf and the berries, you could color?! ![]() My mom kept a gorgeous female shrub by our backdoor that always had berries on it no matter what time of year - "Blue Princess". "Blue Girl" is nice but she has periods where she is without fruit. Still love both types but "Blue Princess" is my favorite... ![]() ![]() Yes Joan, I do have a lot of growing space here - both indoor and out. It's about the only reason I stay here anymore, but I won't be here forever. Heading back to the Maritimes someday... : ) |

Thank you, Sheyry, for posting all the photos of your gorgeous plants and flowers for us to admire. I truly enjoy seeing the photos you posted and reading what you wrote in your blogs. It couldn't be more true that you have the greenest thumb that some of us have seen because you can grow flowers indoors so well.
Thank you again for your great efforts!!! ![]()
