Any other kitchen "goodies" in your repertoire? I love grocery shopping but hate buying herbicides/insecticides/fertilizers/fungicides. Heck, I make my own beer--I'm cheap. (Well, haven't lately but have a farming bud in KS ready to ship me a bushel of red winter wheat to play with when I'm ready. To malt or cereal--that is the question.)

Making beer is a good thing.. better than buying that crap they make these days w/ fish bladder in it.. :^)

Hi Kat:

We have them here too and call them fire ants. I accidentally sat down on a hill at night and never moved so fast in my life.

The one thing that I have found that works for sure is to pour kerosene or gasoline on the mound. I know it's anti-environmental, but hey, sue me. They will be gone the next day.

I havethis stuff called Battery that as soon as its applied they are dying in place.. It requires a certification for use.. and its mostly permethrin.. :^)

You should have mentioned that when you were here you could have had the whole cactus in the corner of my Citrus. It's edible and taste good but you better wear gloves as it has an indelible vibrant purple staining juice. Kinda reminds on the jungle natives and betel juice.

Gone or moved but maybe not dead! Many times they just relocate after the nest and ground has been contaminated.

Stain for good long while comes to mind & you wear 2 pr of gloves so the needles don't get you.. :^)

First 2 pics are 1st yr Hamlin's in S. Ark..

Even though this one is a 1st yr its in better soil than the 1st pic.. My 2nd yr Hamlin's are nearly twice as big.. :^)
