Default Banana bunches still hanging

Three bunches made it thru the cold.

Raja Puri and Dwarf Brazilian are finally filling in.

Dwarf Brazilian

Raja Puri

Pisang Klotek looks like it has at least 20 hands. Unfortunately I don't think there is enough green in the remaining leaves to support fruit. So I think I'll take the machete to it tomorrow.

Poor PK

Awesome Dan!!! I think even the Pisang Klotek will mature and just have thinner fingers! I have seen bunches mature with half a thrashed leaf hanging locally!

How cold did your bananas see this winter? They look pretty good! Mine almost all lost their leafs in Pyrgos as we had quite a bad winter this year and temperature fell to -2C to -2,5C a single night of January(this is considered a pretty bad winter for Pyrgos, although not the worst. Such lows dont happen often and most of the years the winter min is 0C to -1C)...Still, the Mysore subgroup(Pisang Ceylon and Pisang Klotek) types kept some of their leafs with not much burn. The difference in cold hardiness totally surprised me and especially considering this subgroup isnt famed for its cold hardiness as others are!

Yeah I'd leave the PK to mature. You've waited far too long to not give it a shot!

Any pups on the plant you are worried will not mature ? Because those will help to feed the fruit on the mother plant.. That's been my experience in the past with my Apples.. I left them till they started to change color and I did pretty good. I have two Apples here with fruit for about 2 months all is well and coming along slowly . In South Florida

Yeah but ----- the PK mat has a solid 6.5 ft pup to take over. Just tossed the whole bunch of Dwarf Namwah with smaller fingers that tasted lousy. When the cold started all the fruit bunches stopped filling in.

I'm leaving the DB and RP bunches on to see what they taste like. Both of these mats will be dug up soon and replaced with other varieties anyway.

I'm willing to go another season to get some decent PK fruit.

The pup will still be there even if you leave the mother right? What do you have to loose! And if you do decide to chop it down just hang it and let it ripen. I've had several bunches that never filled out but still ripen and taste great after hanging for a while. It does take longer to ripen them though.
