Aloe aristata and a couple other succulents

A very generous person graciously sent me this plant last fall/winter and I overwintered it inside. This spring it went out into my new xeriscape beds out front and has done nicely. Just noticed today when I was out working in the yard, it is starting to bloom. Just wanted to see who else has grown this aloe and how it has done for you. I am pushing the limits with this one, but several sites list it as a 7b plant. A couple of these sites have proven pretty reliable on their info. I also decided to post a few pics of a couple other plants in the front beds.

Nolina nelsonii

Agave americana

Pup came up a good 2 feet away from mama! Did not realize agaves send pups that far from parent plant...

This pup is more like I thought it would send up offsets...

Nice garden! I have a small one in a container that blooms every year. Cool looking plant!

Beautiful plants, and I love the foliage and flower of the aloe! How quick does it grow?

Nice pictures, Randy! I especially like the A. americana. We see a lot of aloes and agaves here in the Houston area. I just had an article published in Texas Gardener on cold hardy cacti and succulents for Texas. I don't think they have it posted on their website, though.

Thanks, Brent!!! Not sure how the americana will do this winter, but planning on trying some sort of protection, just not sure what yet. It is hard to tell by the pic, but it is about 3' tall and a good 4' wide. Did you see the pup that ran out about 2' from the parent plant? I have never seen one do that, but then again, I haven't been around a lot of agaves. Most ones I have seen pup close to the parent.
As far as the article you wrote, I would love to read it if possible.
Just got an aloe polyphylla in the mail last week and have an agave ovatifolia coming from Texas later this week. I have a few small hardy agaves potted up, but hope to add to my collection as I can find them...

Very nice pix. When looking at that agave all I could think of is "feed me seymour".
