I will try it for you. Saving some pups to be sure...

I have read everywhere only about temps of 10°C (cold hardy) to 18°C (tropical) banana overwintering... maybe so.
We'll see...

I will try to overwinter my plants that are going to stay in pots in temp. between 12-15 C with low light and for 3 months at most.
What will happend if tem. are higher than that?

If thaey are higher for a longer period, the plants will wake up and think, that the spring came.

For Dwarf Cavendish, idle should be about 18°C to be in winter though.

Arent bananas "wake" for whole year in tropics? How do they know that spring is comming?

Many times I kept one nice plant in my living room. Musa rajapuri was the first, ten two times musa d.brazilian, once musa FHIA-18. They like any bright place.
Because the root system is disturbed, you have to watch the watering. Also for different bugs and mites you have to watch out. The best is you wash the leaves of with a wet cloth once a month.
They like it warm and cosy. Avoid too much dry air.

It's been six years. Five years ago I made two times an order of tissue cultured banana plants from Agristarts, Florida.
All in all at least 150 plants of about 15 different cultivars.
But my garden is not that big and I have planted other plants as well, so it is just natural that I don't have too many bananas any more.

I always intended to grow bananas in the ground not in pots. So the pot is for me and my bananas only a temporary place.

I know there is a guy in Germany who has grown rajapuri sucsessfully in a pot and has harvested a nice bunch. Finally all the bananas are suitable for pots. Only the pot has to be big enough.

The cold hardier, the better. There was a list somewhere in this forum. Also, Kalabrian and myself are searching for resistant varieties (to -1°C), possibly edible... Well, it's a tough hunt. But there are some to try... Orinoco family mostly... We'll see what the future brings.

No, fortunately already have this piece...

Just keep it for now, let it groooooooow and have many more pups to make you a small private plantain (Cavendish is supposed to taste very goood, I can confirm, that homemade SDC does...). But thanks for offer.

Btw.: Pahari Kela is slowly emerging from the ground (2 pups maybe). Hope that the colder weather (22°C) that came today won't stop it too much. After all, it's some Hill banana, ain't it?

Actually no, like Kalabrian, I'm rather new to bananas (less than 1 and half year). My SDCs are just pushing first normal sized leaves and finally made some trunk.
I got to bananas after seeing it fruiting in a car shop, where it was potted in about 100 litres, received mild watering and had semi light. I couldn't believe it.

About 60 small fruits, each from 10 to 12cm... My friend, who works there allowed me to steal the lwoer hand and after I tasted it, the magical lovelly dream came through... Unlike ANY banana that you have eaten from the store.

They are much sweeter, filled with more water, are soft and yet dense... Magical...

I have about 3 potted new SDCs to give away and about 16 more on the mother corms, too small to be separated...
Already I gave away about 10 small plants, 2 of them can be found in the Bratislava Botanical Garden, greenhouse section.

I'm forever in their records as donor...

Have to notice that DC are much faster growers than SDC. I have one SDC in pot and one in free soil for about a month now and no sign of new growth at all. Both looks healthy but they are still sitting ducks. DC gives me new leaf every week.
