Newbie - should I do gradually or just go straight to bigger pot?

Hi there,

I received my first banana plant, a Manzano, in a 4 in pot today.

I'm curious about potting recommendations. Is it best to gradually upgrade as the plant grows or could I go straight to a larger pot? I'm putting this plant in a heated 4-season all glass sunroom.

Congratulations with your Manzano. I do not drive one but I here they are awesome.

Myself, I gradually increase container size to fit the plants requirements.

On the other hand you can hobble the plants growth by keeping it in a smaller container.
Your plant will need a large indoor footprint.

Welcome to the org! Manzano is a good choice, if you are wanting it to bloom and give you manners it will need a big pot. This variety grows to 12 to 14ft on average. Their are a lot of people that no here that gradually increase the pot size as the plant gets bigger. Their is no right or wrong answer.

Hdynad, how big of a container do you suggest? The spot where I want to put it in our sunroom is about 9 feet tall. :-/

Right now you banana is small , maybe start off with a gallon container and eventually work up to a 25 gallon. Banana varieties grown in containers will be smaller than the ones grown outside in the ground. You also want to make sure you have really good drainage.
