Default Brown spots and leaf edges

Gave my mom a basjoo in NY in hopes she may be able to actually plant it someday, as I’ve seen some users in jersey had success with those in the ground over winter. BUT it’s looking sickly.

It has little dark pinhole spots

The new leaf is also a little damaged

And I pulled off the smallest leaf which to me looks like it’s rotting at the base. It’s soft and gooey

When the old leafs fall off mine they kinda just split at the base and turn brown, but I don’t recall specifically noticing them being soft like that.

I grow all of mine indoors in an apartment, so outside is new to me. It’s in a mix of 50/50 perlite and some generic potting mix. It’s in a spot where it’s shaded in the morning and gets full blazing sun in the afternoon, so I think it might be like sunburnt, or maybe it’s overwatering because the dirt dries pretty fast on top (like in a few hours of 80+ heat and sun) so perhaps we’re over compensating. The other thing is her tomatoes right next to it tend to get little bugs on them and she sprays them with a soapy mix frequently. I had some mites on mine and did the same thing and noticed it damaged the plant where it collected in the petioles near the stem.

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Looking good.....the plants look like a little sunburn issue ......but not to worry..They will get used to the direct sunlight in no time..

It’s been outside for at least a month now*, and this apparently just started happening. I guess I forgot to mention that, sorry.

For your old leaves, they usually dry out. I'm not very familiar with Musa Basjoo, but edible bananas get rid of their older leaves by putting a split down them and drying out. For your soapy mix, maybe move the banana to a different place, although if it has just started showing symptoms, it's probably rot.

The base is starting to dry out now, I cut off what I could of the soft moist dead material.

The surface of the soil looked bone dry but when scraping down about an inch it was still very damp, it’s probably been sitting in it this whole time like that.

Yeah, then it's probably rot. Bananas don't like their roots soaked in water for too long.
