2 Questions about trying to fruit dwarf varieties

Two questions about trying to fruit a few different dwarf varieties in pots. FYI… I’m in zone 6A so I do have to bring them indoors over winter.

1. Will a dwarf variety (like a Dwarf Cavendish) really fruit at 6’-8’ tall? Would it be more like north of 9’ tall? More specifically is the 6’-8’ measurement only referring to the pseudostem height not the height of the cigar leaf.

2. In order to fruit do you really have to have a really BIG size pot? I mean like a 25 gallon size or bigger. I’m truly hoping not b/c other wise I’m going to have quit growing banana plants then.

My dwarf Cavendish that has just fruited is about 6 feet tall from the soil line. I moved it to a 25 gallon pot to lessen the frequency of how often I had to water it and allow me more room for pups. I had the room too and store them in my garage over the winter so it wasn't too big of a problem. Last year it wasn't that much smaller and was in one of the larger pots you can get at Lowes. I think it was the 20 inch Garden Treasures pot. It was doing well but I had to water it every other day. It can get hot here during the peak of summer. When it put up pups it was a bit difficult to remove them but still doable. I also had a Blue Java in the same size container until recently. It was about 10 feet tall before I planted it in the back yard. You can definitely keep them in smaller containers than a 25 gallon but be prepared to water more often in the summer months.

If you don't have 12' ceilings its going to be rough going in the winter. I had mine in 30 gallon pots. I wasn't trying to fruit them indoors just get them thru the winter. I don't do that no more, but good luck. I think you'd have better luck w/ a Raja Puri since they fruit shorter.. You won't have to worry bout all the things that can happen in ur region bout DC's that can help them fail. I probably deleted all my pictures. I did fruit a FHIA-02 in a pot and they were very good.
