Transplanted Musa Basjoo not growing
Hi, around 2 weeks ago I planted a banana plant stem (around 50cm) in the ground. I bought it as a small 10cm plant last year and it got a size of 130cm (without pot) last season. I put in inside for winter and had to cut in in spring after putting it outside 1,5 months ago because the leaves died (probably from the sun). After planting it in the ground it was growing very slowly and the center leaf thing was looking fine and now its turning brown (probably also sunburn because if you remove a bit from the old leaf its looking very green). It has a small pup that has 1 leaf and its looking good but the main plant only grew around 2cm in the last 2 weeks. The weather is also banana friendly (around 23C and 13C (night)) Is this normal and does it still need time until its growing very fast?

Re: Transplanted Musa Basjoo not growing
Can also just be a 'transplant' shock, some musa transplant fine where others need a good few weeks before they settle in, as above, post up some pics so we can help you further.

Re: Transplanted Musa Basjoo not growing
Great detailed photo.
Sometimes it takes a few weeks for a plant to sort itself out when you plant it. It looks like the case. |

Re: Transplanted Musa Basjoo not growing
Thanks! I was wondering because it didn't look good. I removed some of the brown stuff around the stem and in the inside it's white and pretty solid.

Your new leaf looks just like this a few inches down. Just a matter of time before it pushes into the open and unfurls. You may cut your plant down to the new growth if you wish to facilitate recovery. new leaf crosssection by Hostafarian, on Flickr |

Re: Transplanted Musa Basjoo not growing
Yea I did that and it looks just like that picture. Although it hasn't grown a bit and the outer white part is starting to turn brown the center still looks good.
