Default Lesson learned.....Mekong Giant

Lots of nurseries here sell banana plants of various species but never Mekong Giant. When trying to buy banana plants online I try and stick with banana specialty growers for variety, health and size for money.

These two just came today from Bountiful Garden Nursery for $21.97 each.

I made the assumption that I would get something at least close to the size being held up in the picture(both on their website as well as the listing on Etsy)

No where did description say what size would/could be shipped but still one would think it would be like in picture. As per instructions will have to let it grow more before putting it in the ground..loosing valuable outdoor growing time. Reviews on Etsy were mixed but with the common disappointment of size received vs what was shown.

Even though the plants are small they should do well for you.
Sometimes stock photos look alittle different than what is received.
This forum seller has some good plants though.

If the plants were mine I would not put them in the ground this year but grow them out in a container until they get some size for next years grow season.
You will have better control and they will overwinter indoors without being disturbed too much.

hi Scott, sorry you are not happy with the size of the plants I sent you. They were the last of the rooted plants of the mekongs I had. But I stand behind all my sales.
You have 30 days to kill them.

You can let them grow outdoor just be aware they came out of a greenhouse and need to acclimate PER THE INCLUDED instructions.
Mekongs grow pretty fast, but only go up in pot size as they grow, Don't put them in a 5 gallon pot when they are this small.

I have to say the thing with size is it differs from batch to batch. So I'm sorry they are not as big as the ones in the photos I should update those photos but you did get Mekong Giant.
I get what I get, from my supplier and that is what is shipped out. I can't make everything perfect all the time.

I hope that helps.

Size disclaimer would be a place to start.

Or

Grow the small ones up to size before offering them.

I have a 8x16 double wall greenhouse where they will reside without fear of sunburn as they can grow to a size that can be planted in the ground.

So something like "Size of plants may vary from Batch to batch" ?

please feel free to ask about size as well.

I'll probably do something that I don't have to change every listing each batch I get.

Glad to hear you were happy.

I am not.

Ordered two now from Florida Hill. I’ll be curious to see what size that they send as they have a disclaimer that it could be from 4 inches to 24 inches.

Disclaimers are a good thing

I glad you ordered from a super disreputable person. Searvh the boards. That guy is bad.

You think I'm bad for the size you got, Hope you get what you ordered, at least with me You got what you ordered.

Just send your plants back for a refund.

I think We're done with is thread now.

LOL is right!

Read the thread that got FHN banned:
Florida Hill Nursery?

Good luck with whatever he sends you.

He should have a disclaimer stating he'll send whatever he has if he doesn't have what you ordered.
