I've been looking for a banana tree and I was going to get musa basjoo but was told that Orinoco has edible bananas and I was gonna grow just for foilage but if I can get bananas too that sounds awesome, I live in North carolina, zone 8a.

Soon the big box stores will have plants for sale.
Usually a Cavendish type plant which works in your area.

The box stores in my area don't sell any types of bananas, I've never seen any out but i'm really wanting orinoco since somebody is recommending to get one since the bananas are more edible and if I protect the pseudostem or have an exceptionally mild winter (above ~25F) for successful fruit set that would be pretty cool

I can sell you one for a good price. $15 plus shipping. Each additional $10. These will be corms too, not tc.

I like Orinocos as well after reading that they can overwinter in zone 8. I am just north of that in zone 7a. I have kept two young dwarf Orinocos potted and alive all winter indoors but am anxious to get them back outside. Even tho' chances are high that they won't make it outdoors over next winter in my zone, I am going to try anyway. From what I gather, dwarfs are not much different, just more manageable in size from regulars.

I'm nervous about Orinocos myself, I know musa basjoo does well here but Orinocos I haven't heard much of at all and I'm not entirely sure how well they do in a wetter climate but from what I know is apparently people down in Wilmington, North carolina plant them out so I'm assuming it will do well for my area since I'm not too far from there.

I have a super dwarf cavendish that I'm just too nervous to even let outside in general because of bugs since I keep it in a pot indoors and I hate spider mites and other leaf loving bugs!

I have Tall Orinoco here in TX and 50% of the corms survived our last two deep freezes (-5F and 5F respectively). It's pretty hard to kill actually. Hope that helps.

Hello.
If you want a standard i have them, or I have the XL fruit form. Also have a few other "Orinoco" types.
They are all very cold tolerant and have nice fruit.
Email me through my profile. I ship through Paypal.

My apologies for the late response. I do still have pups available, and it is the standard type.

For the record, the so called XL version has shown to be a dud. It did not produce large fruits, and really is just a dwarf. Perhaps it has mutated.
