This is the California Gold Richard sent to me a week ago. I planted this last sunday and you can already see how much it has grown since then. I'm really excited and hopefully it will grow just fine until spring.

Looking good!

guess im getting anxious for summer.. LOL still pretty cold here ..utah
i ordered a big ensete off ebay.. plant came today.. survived fine..
so potted it up in big pot..
i use my own compost,coco coir,and perlite..
plants seem to like it..
this is my 1st full yr with bananas.. last yr..i used fair amount
of sand in potting mix.. and in my bigger pots.. geeshhhh.
hauling them out on sunny days in winter.. sigh... LOL
this mix is alot lighter.. good drainage.. and i have alot
less back pain..

Default Since you asked...

We just finished planting out a plot of 850 Lakatan banana suckers, the filipino favorite. This brings our total plantings to 4200 plants, or just about 5 acres/2 hectares.

Got a new Thai Black and a Hedychium coccineum
Hedychium coccineum is a great ginger with great flowers and foliage. The flowers are orange and held in a cluster above the foliage. The foliage is a strap like leaf dark green with red undersides and some coloration on the canes. Plants can grow to 4 to 6 feet tall. The plants came originally from the Himalayas .
I got the plants from Brians Botanicals. Great person to deal with. The plants are always big too. Im always happy when I see my box on the front porch.

I potted up a Black Thai and a Siam Ruby that I just got from Floridahill Nursery.
The plants are in great shape and about 14-16 inches, the Ruby even came with
a tiny pup coming out of the base! I got a DC a Nain and two Ensetes from them last week, and the plants were so beautiful I had to get more. I now have 12 plants, including two musellas and two Basjoos wintered over bareoot.
