Default Visit to Mackenzie Miller Farms

Checked out John Mackenzie at his digs in Palm City, Fla for some fresh produce for dinner and had to take some pics. He reorganized his farm market area to feature the good stuff after having to containerize everything because of h-cane Ike. Check it out.

Gran Nain Chorus Line

G. Nain big bunch

G. Nain - four fruit bunches - where's Waldo?

Papayas - yum

Lemons -fat

Blueberry, pineapple, naners, etc

Black Pepper vine in shade, et. al.

More stuff - note the vermicompost layer in each pot

Looks great, but I see no vermiculite. Of course, I am half blind from this darned diabetes.

Scot,
I'm tempted, but I don't know if I should respond with a joke about the vermicompost. Diabetes is a pretty serious thing. It has been difficult for my wife who has had knee replacement, arthroscopy a couple of times on the other knee, gout in both feet, carpal tunnel in both hands, and the medications have been fighting each other, plus her diabetes slows down her recovery from any surgical procedures.

I am glad that you are able to make light of your condition because it tells me that you have a positive outlook in spite of it. All the best to you, Kaibigan.

Nice photos, Dan. Can you please clarify why everything needed to be containerized after hurricane Fay?

John Mack made the hard decision to containerize based on the time it would take to do it all. Note the special cloth like bags he pots in. Very little of his stuff is in the ground. He was also thinking of dismantling his solar array panels in his irrigation power station.

At one point the keys were looking at Ike classified as a Cat 4 headed straight for them. That meant big NE side winds for us in Martin and St Lucie counties. We are all glad it didn't happen. So is John, despite the cost.

I felt brave and didn't do any extra reinforcing and lost my big Saba, in fruit, and the tall Pitogo. I'm about 10 miles inland, and when they say 20 mph winds sustained we can still get 50 to 60 mph gusts.

Dan

Dan,

Nice place you all have here, appreciate the photos~!

Any Floridians local to Martin County, we are open every day but Mondays.

Those outside the area: Edible Landscaping

We had to use trailers to store many plants out of concern for Ike's early potential. We were fortunate, although the Gulf Coast was hit very hard and our thoughts go out to them.

Are there any Edible Landscapers here?

Thanks again, I'll post some photos next time.

Kind Regards,

John Mackenzie

PS> Cold Winter ahead~!

John Mack,
Welcome to the Org.!

Are any of your bananas for sale, or are they strictly for your landscape business? I didn't see any listed on your website. Do you only cater to local business? Any mail/web order?

Thanks.

Chong

Welcome, John. Okay, now I understand that you actually moved all of those plants out of harms way. What a job! What sort of facilities do you store plants in when anticipating a category 4 hurricane??? I suppose you might find some warehouses that fit the bill.

The Admin needs to resolve some issues with uptime here. Site would not load for hours on end...

We do sell everything listed on the website, "For Pricing and Container Sizes Please contact Miller Mackenzie @ 772.708.6047" until the commerce engine is live, and even then I have my hands full photograping and SKUing all items which will take time as I am my own web developer.

I used box trailers, horse trailers and any trailer that would keep wind at bay, it is a great deal of work, but losing it all to a cane is much worse. Six days is a long time for any plant to be stored, so I've had my hands full pruning and getting everything tuned up for Fall.

Very nice forum here, will try and make the time stay as current as possible. We are going to be selling 2000lbs+ of Nains in the Farmers Market and 20,000lbs+ next year.

Nothing like a delicious Naner, You ladies and gents be well~!

John, Jarred (the site owner) has been working on the problems with the forums for quite a while and announced earlier today that he's getting a new server. You can read about it at Site Slow?
