Hey guys!!! It's been a while since I've been on the forum.
I was hit by the historic Winter Storm here in Texas and was freezing without power for several days. I tried to protect all my plants the best I could by covering them all with multiple bags and then laying blankets on top of them. Miraculously 4 of them have come back to life so far. The first two were Blue Java and Tall Namwa. Now i'm a true believer of their claimed cold hardiness. The other two just coming back are my Dwarf Namwa and Praying Hands. I'm still in the game BBJ!! Although set back a little I'm really hoping the rest of them come back... but it got down to 14 degrees which is unprecedented down here. Here is a pic of what they look like, you can see the Namwa and Blue Java springing back to life. My other bananas not shown in the picture don't look much better - but we shall see!

That sounds terrible. It must be annoying to have the first winter growing bananas be that hard. I just missed out bad winter in 2017-2018 and planted my first banana tree in fall 2018. Hopefully they all come back for you!
Also, praying hands has been growing slowly but is still pretty green. Wishing your plants the best of luck! Btw I think it's time to head over to the good old updates contest thread, and post an update, eh? ![]() |

Seems amazing to me that those varieties survived those temperatures, you obviously did a stellar job at protecting them, nicely done
![]() I certainly heard about the rough weather you all had down there, but I am wondering how long it lasted? Makes me consider a bit more seriously trying a dwarf orinoco pup in the ground up here - although our cold temperatures last a tad longer than in your neck of the woods which may be a deal breaker.

Wanted to post an update!
All of my bananas on the ground have recovered and are growing beautifully ![]() I even moved my Variegated Florida to a better spot and it's already growing again through a new pup! Most of my potted Nanas came back to life as well These were the only casualties... not surprisingly Hawaiian varities + double cavendish. To be fair though they were all tissue culture from last year.
