Default Stuffed Cali Gold

This is the pup I received from Benny. It pushed one leaf, and now it's stuffed with emergent leaves. It's getting messy quick. Recommendations?

Let it be or do a little surgery. The new cigar leaf will emerge and the plant will normalize. Looks like it may have choked a little.

Wasn't it overfertilized? Seems like that.

This is my experience. CG is temperamental. It may take more than 3 months before it responds or more. I transferred a CG bigger than you've got but it lost all its leaves and it took more than 6 months before it responds. And about another 6 months before it becomes normal again. Don't give up. Unlike my other bananas sometimes it lost its leaves sometimes none at all but the response is quick.
The CG that I thought I lost it is doing fine now. I'll post a pic soon.
And if you lose it please let me know and I'll settle with you. I don't want you to be unhappy.

Over fertilized or over watered, or both. Check the soil. Make sure that it has good drainage. Since it's in a pot, check if you can see the bottom soil. If not, gently put the pot(plastic - it won't work on clay pot) on its side, gently roll the pot while applying gentle pressure on the side to loosen the soil from the pot, and gently pull out the plant to expose the bottom roots and soil.

If they're pretty wet, gently shake out the wet soil (at least 50%), avoid damaging the roots as much as possible. (Dusting or spraying with systemic fungicide, optional). Replant the plant in the pot using new potting soil. Do not water until the top 1" of the new soil is dry. Bagged potting soil usually has enough moisture to last the plant at least a couple of days. Place the plant in a warm, bright area, but away from direct sunlight.

Shannon:
I am just telling my own personal experience. I really don't understand this plant. I have one CG that did not grow for over a year but after a year it grew normally. I had problems with it the spears sticking and I have problems with splotch of black spots on the leaves but I cure it with adding Boron to the soil. I only add Boron in minuscule because someone adviced that in large quantities it is toxic to plants..
My thought is that I had the wrong kind of soil it was growing at. I measured the pH of the soil and it was too acidic at that time so I put some ash on top of the soil.
The CG has to be conditioned to the soil and try not to move it.
There was a time that I removed a pup as much as 3 1/2 feet high and only to find that not a single root attached from the corm so it was getting all the nutrients from the mom still. Consequently, It died on me.
And as I told before, I waited for over 2 years before I saw the first pup from the mother.
So I think that this is a weird plant.
But Tony from San Diego has a lot of pups for less than 2 years. It also must be from location because Harvey does not have problem with his.

OK, so here's what happened. After receiving the "mega" pup from Benny, I staked the 3 foot tall plant into a 7 gallon container. All the roots connected to the mother/pup complex died in route. New roots were just emerging from the meat of the corm upon arrival. My mistake/stroke of genius was pouring some liquid seaweed into the container and drenching it in with water.

As discussed previously, a single large leaf initially emerged. The 2nd through 5th leaves got stuffed and deformed. Leaf 6 emerged smaller, but normal with a short petiole. Leaf 7 has emerged a little larger/normal. Leaf petiole is starting to normalize a bit. Everything is hunky dorry now. This thing is growing like wildfire.

Now here's the amazing thing. This banana has almost rooted out the entire 7 gallon container in a matter of a few weeks. Phenomenal root growth. Roots are showing up at the surface. Everywhere roots. Apparently the seaweed was well received.
