Red Bananas
I'm trying to figure out what type of mystery musa I have here (Yeah I know this may need to be moved). While I'm at it i figured we could discuss commonly available red type bananas. More specifically I just mean red-colored stems and not necessarily exclusive to the "Red" subgroup. I am only looking at edibles too. From most Red to least here is what I concluded:
Tall/ Dwarf Red Iholene Red Dwarf Puerto Rican Mysore Manzano What do you think about this one? Dwarf Red in foreground, mystery musa, goldfinger on the end... Last edited by floridagrower : 06-17-2011 at 06:42 PM. |

These are photos of a 'banana island' taken at my mom house in south FL.
the rear mat is the background is manzano not goldfinger. these are not ice cream I have those and are very familair with them. 19 varities are planted along side this mystery which We(me and floridagrower) believe to be mysore. it is very vigorous and seems well adapted to south florida and sandy soil, it is also a more cold hardy type and not sensitive like the true red types. |

Sunfish I agree.
I have a 'US misi luki' planted as well next to this mystery mysore. it has the upright leaves and white undersides. not the 'true misi luki' it however looks nothing like the dwarf namwah either which has an umbrella shaped crown and relaxed curving leaves. |
