![]() I realize that when I am pruning lower leaves, these layers should form the thicker pseudostem over time. However, when I am pruning lower leaves, I realize sometimes the layers brown and peel away from the pseudo stem, rendering them useless.
Is this due to incorrectly pruning? I don't want these layers to rot the stem and also they are rather unaesthetic so have been removing them. Is this normal? I usually prune with an inch of stem left on each. Thank you!

![]() I only prune banana leaves after they lose rigidity and fold down to the pstem and turn brown. I like to see a green pstem so remove old layers as they turn brown and dry out. I try to maintain maximum green on my plant to generate energy for the plant’s growth. A green pstem is probably like having an extra leaf or two vs. a brown, dried up outer layer.
