![]() GaTroops,
I got the Manihot from a gentleman that got me started with palms/nanners/ee's... He lives in Athens, TN. Goes by the name of Will T. Don't know if you know him or not, but has some great specimen plants... |

![]() Great pics Randy. I'm growing the black ee for the first time. I know I will have to dig them up this winter. Should I keep them in pot for the winter or store them just like a bulb. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

![]() Mudcat,
This is the 1st year I have had them outside. I will try and leave them and see if they come back or not... They are pretty hary from my understanding. I do have 3-4" of mulch covering all my beds, so this will hopefully help... I actually purchased them last fall when they were practically giving them away... I left them in their pot and stored them in my unheated garage... I don't know how they would do storing them like a bulb. If you pot them up for the winter, just be sure to not water them hardly at all (if any). Good luck and hope you have sucess with them... I really like EE's!!!! |

![]() Nice pics Randy, I wish more members would post pics of their yards, naners etc. You never know what you might see and just have to have! On second thought, ...... .

![]() Thanks, Nanaman...
I don't see many members posting overall yard pics either, so I was kinda hesitant to do it, but I decided to give it a try... Most of the time, I only see pics of individual banana plants, which is great, but I too, like to see others nanners incorporated into their surroundings... Who knows, maybe more will start doing the same... BTW, is there something you saw I had growing that you might be interested in? If so, e-mail me and I'll see what I can do for ya if anything... Thanks again for the compliments.... Randy4ut |

![]() Randy thanks for the info. I will probably go with potting them up for the winter. I had previously bought ( at 4 different times) bare root tubers and failed. I finally found one at HD. It was about 12in, so hopefully I will have better luck with them this time.
Thanks again, Bob |

![]() Randy, the reason I don't post overall yard pics anymore is because of people like you! Your yard absolutely just puts mine to shame. You really have done a great job with it, and are to be commended. I've been just digging a hole here and there and sticking something in it. I'm waiting on a dumptruck load of topsoil to start creating some raised beds. My soil is just too pitiful to grow a lot of the things (bananas) that I like to grow. It's great for Trachys though, rhododendrons and azaleas, bluberries, hydrangeas, and other acid-loving plants. Different parts of the yard support bananas better than others also. My front bed doesn't support anything very well except my Trachys. My pathectic Hedychium coronarium is only about 1 foot tall in that bed, and last year I had a Musella lasiocarpa completely stall out in that bed. EEs did ok though. Ummm...am I dragging on here??
Well, nice job anyhows! Gotta get down there soon. |

![]() I would like to see a sticky thread dedicated to members yard photos(voluntary of course)! That way you get to see stuff that you might not have thought to plant yourself, or don't want to grow for whatever reason, or does not grow well in your particular zone. Also it would be a cool way to document the changes that your yard has undergone, and may give others ideas that they hadn't thought of. Who cares if your yard is incomplete,or whatever,I'm sure other banana members would love to see it! Besides, who else but other banana enthusiasts, can appreciate the efforts that have gone into it. l wish I had documented the progression of mine so far! I'm only interested in growing edible desert bananas, pineapples, tropical clumping bamboo, and a few tomatoes now and then so my yard might be boring to some, but it's paradise to me! I'll post some pics soon.

![]() modenacart,
The only palm that I have to really worry about is the Queen palm in a large nursery pot... It spent last winter inside my unheated garage... The others will be fine until temps get lower teens or colder... I will then wrap with mini Christmas lights and wrap with frost cloth... I haven't had to do that so far, since this is just my 3rd year with the palms, but I have everything in place to do so if need be... |
