PR Morado, PR Verdin, Tigua and ARH Plantain Update!

*****Update!*****

After almost 2 years for been trans-planted on the ground, PR Morado and PR Verdin are flowering!....

Kumunamba = Tigua is flowering!....Tigua took exactly 9 months from trans-planted to the ground to flowering!....Its remarkable for the size of Tigua to grow that fast comparing to other 'nanas varieties!....
There is an evaluation/study done years ago that mentioned Kumunamba as one of the best to grow in our conditions in South Florida!...

PR Morado, PR Verdin and Tigua are big, tall 'nana plants!...Approx. 14 to 15 ft. tall at flowering!....

*****Also, I'm one of the first forum members (maybe not the first one) to flower any of these 'nana varieties (PR Verdin, Tigua, PR Morado) in Continental US!.....A very nice accomplishment!*****:08:

All pictures taken on April 29, 2017!.....

TARS PR Cuerno De Alce (ARH Plantain)....Baseball bats!....LOL....Keeps fill-in really nice!....

Musa PR Morado!....Very beautiful plant!.....Part of the red family 'nana variety (cold sensitive)!.....

Musa PR Verdin!....Also, part of the red family 'nana variety (cold sensitive)!....What a beauty!....

Musa Kumunamba = Tigua!....Definitely a "monster grower!"....Also, a very beautiful 'nana plant!....

Thank you for seeing the thread!.....

Great banana & pics! ... From your description of 'cold sensitive', I take it as these would not fruit and not likely to survive the winter here in 8b (9a micro) south Georgia.

Thanks Ed!

You are right!....As part as The Red Subgroup Family 'nana varieties (Tall Red, Dwarf Red, Jamaican Red, Cuban Red, etc.) they are very cold sensitive!....It is one of the first 'nana varieties that go dormant when temp. starting to drop!.... I'm not saying its not possible, but it will be a real challenge to grow (most likely won't survive the winter there) and then to flower/blooms in your area/zone!.....

I have a Dwarf Red that's about 16" tall after spending the winter in the ground here. Another Dwarf Red potted in the green house about ready to be set in the ground. ... Thanks for the info.

Hi

Congrats! I also got a pup Tigua but i thought it was a real fast grower and fruiter similar to the small Vente Cohol?

If it doesnt flower until it is 14 feet than I wont get any fruit this year from my small 3 feet who spent t the winter in my garage and has sprung 2 leaves since i put it in the ground..

Same here. I grew mine all last year. It reached about 12'-13' and pstem didn't make it through my worse than average winter. Veinte cohol is a winner for me. Patupi went dorment early with a flower. It seems fast. I will know more later in the year. I have several Tigua, Patupi, and VC in a race! Patupi does bloom short. 8' if I remember right.

Good luck with yours. I'll report my results later in the year.

Thank you Ty, nph and Anke!....

nph,

Kumunamba = Tigua is a tall 'nana variety!...grows approx.. 12 to 15 ft. tall....

Anke (Crazy Banana),

Here are a couple of pictures of my SH-3640 'nana mat....I will keep posting pictures of The SH-3640 for sure!....If any of The SH-3640 flowers/blooms, I won't cut the flower bud!....

Ty,

You welcome and thank you bro!....

Pictures of The FHIA-3 "King of Monster Growers Sweetheart!".....So far for me, The FHIA-3 is the fastest to grow from corm to the first leaf!....Its incredible!....I'm amazed!....

As Ty mentioned, he sent me a nice size FHIA-3 corm.....I received The FHIA-3 on April 21, 2017....Same day I trans-planted on a big pot around 12:00 P:M....Look at the picture!....It started to grow very fast from the beginning!...

FHIA-3 opened the first leaf on April 28, 2017.....In just 7 days after trans-planted!....Just amazing!

Pictures from April 30, 2017...Pushing out, opening the second leaf!...

*****Musa PR Morado Update!*****

Flower bud is positioning down!....Beautiful flower bud!....

Baseball bats (TARS ARH Plantain) on the background!....I was approx. 14ft. high looking up on my 20ft. extension ladder!....
